I didn't have a 6th grade graduation. I moved in the middle of the year and in CA 6th grade is elementary and in NV, it's junior high so my experience was more traumatic than eventful. I've never even been to a 6th grade graduation though I hear they have it for almost everything in some places including kindergarten which is weird but off topic. Anyway, my 11yo dd is graduating 6th grade next month and needs a dress. I was thinking of going to JcPenney or Debs and spending maybe $30-$50 on a nice summery dress that she can wear more than once plus shoes and whatever but my dd insists that she needs like a prom dress/evening gown and is in love with every dress that is at least $150 not to mention a matching pair of 6 inch heels (like she could walk in them, ha!). She swears that's what everyone else will be wearing. Now of course I hear that a lot, she's the ONLY 11yo girl in the world without an Ipod touch too. What sort of dress did you get or will get for your dd's various graduations?
I agree, a nice summer dress is what most of the girls will likely be wearing. I can't imagine an elementary graduation being a formal event, especially since HS and college graduations aren't formal events.
I would get a new summer dress for her. Here the 6th grade a moving up ceremony. The kids dress anywhere from regular clothes (shorts/t-shirt) to the girls wearing dresses (that look too old for them) with heels (but not prom/evening gowns) and the boys with khakis and button up shirt. When my oldest had his he wore shorts and a polo shirt. My youngest has his in a couple weeks and that's prob what he'll be wearing. (improvement from a regular t-shirt)
My DD had her "graduation"/award ceremony yesterday. I went to Belk, and bought a beautiful summer dress. It was originally $65 but I got it for $13.99. I also got her a little bolero sweater that goes with it for $13.99 as well - the dress is sleeveless which she isn't allowed to wear at school so the sweater goes well. There is no way I would be spending that kind of money, and we don't do heals yet.
