June 10th, 2012 - Today, Gillian and I drove to the west coast of the state. We visited with Aunt Marci, and went to the beach. It was our first visit to Lake Michigan this summer. We played at a park and ate a picnic lunch first, but then we dipped our toes into Lake Michigan. It was a lot of fun, especially in the hot weather.
Later, Aunt Karen, Cadee, and Josh drove over to meet us, and I took their first post-divorce family portrait. It was nice seeing the kids, and Gillian and Josh got along very nicely. They both share many of the same quirks, and Josh is borderline Asperger's. They're also both stubborn, and will argue the point, so it wasn't all smooth sailing. They exchanged email addresses, though, and have been talking a lot since.
June 12th, 2012 - today, Gillian and I rode our bikes up to the school. It isn't far, but it is all up hill, so it took some work. Gillian's friend Cassie is moving out of state, so we were having a going away party at the school pool with the Girl Scouts. Cassie will be missed dearly, but we plan to Skype during a few scout meetings, and I am planning to look into doing a pen pals type of badge, if there is one. Cassie's mom was co-leader of her troop, which leaves an opening that I volunteered for. I think it will be fun, and I already help a lot with planning, and chaperoning events.
At the pool party, we all gave Cassie a gift, and lots of hugs. She is excited for her move, but sad to be leaving her friends behind.
June 17th, 2012 - Today was Father's day. We have season passes to a small Amusement park, which has a water park attached, and today they had a special- each season pass holder could bring up to 4 guests for only $15 each, instead of the normal price of $28 each. We made a day of it, and invited both of my brothers, their wives, and my two nieces.
We started the day slow- it was raining, Nick has as all cold and was 't feeling good, and I admit, I o ly slept 2 hours before getting back up. But, by the time we got there, it was bright and sunny, and everyone was excited for a fun day. We rode a coaster, and a few smaller rides before heading to the water park.
It was a perfect day for the water, though nearly all of us walked away at least partially burned. Gillian and I rode the Funnel of Fear with my 10yo niece McKayla, and thought it was awesome. We wound up back at the amusement park by late afternoon, but everyone sure was sleepy.
I talked to my older brother and his wife Bout having McKayla join us on our girls only camping trip in July. We are going up to a beautiful and historical at of the state- an area McKayla has never been to. They thought it was a great idea, so she will be joking Raegan, Gillian, and myself for a fun filled week in Mackinaw City!
Additional entries will be posted as comments. This upcoming week, we have no big plans, aside from digging out our tent, and sorting out all of our camping supplies. We leave onaGirl Scout trip to Traverse City on the 26th, so there is planning and packing to do for that as well. I am making some fun trophies for it, plus doing some homemade goodies, and helping to plan road trip games, and a scavenger hunt nature walk.
Whew, I guess it will be a busy week anyway!
