Is your tween involved in some kind of scouting organization, like Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or Camp Fire USA? How long have they been active in it? Do you think they'll stay active in the organization during their teen years too?
DD was in Girl Scouts for a year but we didnt go back. It was WAY to clicky. We now do 4-H and fit in perfectly and have met alot of great people and friends thru it.

I did Girl Scouts when I was younger, and I found the same issue with them. My son has been active in the Boy Scouts, and I've been surprised at how much more accepting and better run their organization seems to be.
I'm glad that 4-H has worked out better!!

Not yet, she'll be joining the rainbow girls when she turns 11

My kids don't do scouts. My older brother was molested by his scout leader and it has just been something really hard for us to overcome. The man was a fireman, had kids of his own and would have passed any background check out there, but he had molested 1300 boys in several states, but none had never turned him in until my brother and 7 of his friends spoke up.
I'm sorry that your brother went through that. It's sad that there were so many victums before he was turned in. Does he still having any ongoing issues from the incident? Or is he doing OK?
To be honest, I was concerned about that and reluctant from those cases in the '90s to sign my son up. But we decided to give Scouts a try when we found a troop run by a family that had a son that was a close friend to my son. I'm happy that we signed up our son, but I'm not sure we would have done that if we didn't know the troop leaders beforehand.

Yes. Oldest boy just went into boy scouts and youngest is now a Webolos 1 in cub scouts. This is going to be their 2nd year. DH was an eagle scout and is the cubmaster so we're very involved. So far, both live it. They teach great things and are very structured :)
It's very impressive that your husband is an Eagle Scout. I know a lot of hard work goes into getting that status!
