Has your tween commented or asked about the shooting in Colorado?

How do you explain it? Is the guy simply a "nut job"?  Is he someone "with issues"? Is he a "bad guy"?  What do you say to your tween(s) about people like this?

I usually explain it as someone who has problems mentally. This particular shooting hasn't hit their radars yet though. It's another one of those subjects that I try to answer as honestly as I can.

Mine are in a no communications area. But I usually get the facts before assuming someone is mentally unstable. Otherwise I tell my kids someone was shooting and hurt and killed many people. Why is what everyone wants to know.
Honestly in this case perhaps the assailant was so much into the comics that reality was exactly how it came out. That doesn't mean he's unstable, it may mean his reality is the comic book coming alive. That the special effects he did was apart ofnthe comic reality. I'm not saying that is a great thing at all. Much the opposite . But when does ones reality becom anothers fantasy?

No she havent asked, She doesnt even know about it as far as I know. We dont watch the news and the we dont talk about current events much. Heck I didnt even know about it until today. So yeah I know about it now but havent made a big deal about it and tell everyone. I see no point in it.
