After school snacks?

We still have awhile yet before our school starts, but I was looking for some different after school snack ideas. Last school year my boys would have a bowl of oatmeal, leftovers, soup, or bean burrito, with 2 pieces of fruit and a bowl of popcorn every day. The younger kids would eat the same but on a much smaller scale. Any ideas on other snacks they could make? I swear my boys are going to put us in the poor house with as much as the 3 of them eat. lol

My kids eat popcorn and fruit. I don't give them huge amounts of food for a snack because they eat dinner any where for 2.5 to 3 hours after getting home from school.

My kids eat an apple, a small bowl of fruit, yogurt, or a few crackers. They eat dinner 3 hrs after school, so i dont allow them to have more than one small serving of those choices.

I don't so snacks. We have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The school does do a snack time and they provide fruits and veggies from local farms. But at home I dont do snacks or dessert except very very rarely.

we do fruit.  usually a cutie (mandarin or clementine) with some melted chocolate for dipping.

yogurt.  my boys like the kind with the candy and cookie crumbs for mixing.

popcorn.  i split a snack bag between the two of them.

baby carrots.  my 11 year old son loves baby carrots.

my 11 year old gets home at 3 and my 8 year old gets home at 4.  i make dinner ready usually by 6 but no later than 6:30.

seriously though, it sounds like your feeding them a meal not a snack.

Maybe I'm letting them eat too much. The 3, 6, 10 year olds eat lunch at 11, the 13 & 18 year olds eat lunch at 11:30. Then get home at 3, from October to late April they go to the ski slope as soon as homework is done. Usually by 4. Then dinner is at 8. They're just so hungry when they get home from school.  Especially the 13 year old, that kid has always been a big eater. None of the kids are overweight at all. In fact we have trouble keeping weight on the 10 year old.

It just sounds like you need to give them more carbs so they can burn it while they're skiing and doing physical activities.  My kids don't get snack.  We have toddlers and are big on family dinners so they get home at 4 and dinner is ready by 5:15.  when we do push dinners later though, I would do a PB&J and a piece of fruit like a banana or apple and a glass of carnation.  At least that was my snack in Jr. High and High School.

Yeah I really try and carb them up, especially on days when it's below 0 out. Oatmeal is their favorite after school snack.  Which is nice since oatmeal is CHEAP! :) Ski lessons are 4:30-5:30 and snowboarding lessons are from 5:30-7:00. My husband doesn't get off work until 6, so we can't do family meals earlier anyway. He usually eats before we get home because he usually goes to bed at 8. My 3 year old is totally adjusted to our craziness, she has ski lessons herself, so she needs a decent snack before going out too.
They do make sandwiches occasionally, but they're not crazy about them. I just know they get sick of making the same thing every day, hoping for some different easy/fun ideas. :)

Is it possible to have dinner ready right when they get home? And then do snack after skiing?

They get small amounts of things-since it is a snack not a meal. a piece of Fruit, a small bowl of cereal. pop corn, crakers n cheese, cookie, fruit snacks.etc
