Something smells......

So, my daughter is getting ready to turn ten, and as most girls seem to be these days, she is developing in all kinds of ways. So, naturally, she has also become more smelly. Haha, I hate to say it but she has.

The thing is that I am having a hard time getting her really interested in increased personal hygene. I have been looking for some products that are fun but not babyish that maybe she could get excited about.

Any suggestions?!?

I don't have girls, so I'm not up on the latest products for them.  I know that Dove has some really nice scents and since they are Dove, they are relatively gentle on sensitive skin.

One thing that a friend and I did with our boys when they reached that stage was talk to them about how the other kids will react to their being smelly.  Things like no one would want to sit by them, they would get teased, they'd be remembered for many years to come as being the smelly kid instead of the smart/athletic kid.  Things like that.  We even went so far as to talk about the kids that we remembered from school as being smelly just to prove that 25-30 years later you still remember the smelly kids.

I have a boy, and so I'm not sure about more feminine tween products either.

To be honest, I was just blunt with my son one day (after subtle encouragements didn't seem to be getting through) by telling him that he needed to start using these products because he smells. I did tell him that I don't want to hurt his feelings, but I thought he needed to know and it would hurt even more coming from his friends instead of me.

My dd is 11 and she likes the dove deo with the pink cap. And she also likes the Axe for Her body spray.
I would recommend you talk to her, about the way her friends and especially kids she is not friends with my say stuff that isn't nice. Take her to the aisle at like walmart and let her smell the different scents if she wants. Letting her be more into the choice of what she gets will help a lot!

Go to amazon.com and get her the book The Care of Keeping of Me--It is book put out by American Girl. It is wonderful, I bought this for my dd who is 10 and it took care of everything. It is written in a way she can understand and has pictures to go along. It covers everthing from breast development, your period and choices between tampons and pads, acne......everthing that has to do with puberty. My dd loves this book and refers back to it all the time when something new happens. Deodarant wise, we took her and bought her Degree Girl LOVE--purple container. She loves how it smells and it looks very teenagery. You can get the book on Amazon for as cheap as $4.00. Hope this helps.

I agree with the American girl book, definitely worth every penny!!! My oldest dd we have constant hygiene issues, but a lot of it has to do with her sensory issues. My youngest dd, however, is very into "hygiene" and all things girly and pretty!! Her fave products are the degree posted below, body wash and lotion from bath and body works, a face wash at ulta, not sure of the name though, Pantene for curly hair (shampoo) and a morraccan oil to prevent tangles and stop frizzies, and of course any spray that smells pretty and has glitter! I am only willing to pay for basics, since I am an unfrilly kind of girl, so I add up what I spend per month on me (suave shampoo, Jergens lotion, noxema face wash, etc) and that is what I give her towards her "basic" products, the rest she pays for on her own, she is signed up for emails and coupons from ulta, bath and body works, etc. she watches the sales and does odd jobs around the neighborhood to earn her money for her extras.

But when someone figures out the answer to curing "smelly tween syndrome" let me know!!!

My youngest is 8 and a girl and she doesn't have issues yet. I think that the other moms that have already went through this have given you some great advice.

they have a skin care line called willa natural skincare a young girl and her mother designed and decided to keep it all natural haven't tried it out yet but it looks like my 9 year old who's going through the same thing would use it cause it looks kind of girly.

What I did with my dd, who will be 13 in a few months, is I had a mother/daughter day and we went to lunch and then I took her to Bath & Body works. They have a huge variety of body lotions or sprays that are fruity fragrance, not sexy like Victoria's Secret. I started her with the Sweet Pea fragrance. She loved it because I made her a basket with the shower gel, lotion & spray. I also got her the Degree girl deodorant along with some other products. She loved it because she felt special. Just an idea.

They have lots of fruit scented deodorants, and nifty matching body washes. let her pick her own with a matching puffy scrubby thing.
