Reading Material Suggestions Needed

I have been a parent for one week now. DS is almost 13, any good books for parents on male development and raising a teen? Also, any suggestions for good books for him, fiction and non-fiction? He reads well, but only wants to read X-men comics so far from the library and won't touch any of the books in our house.

So, he is your stepson or adopted? Try not to enforce reading different books right now....be happy he is at least reading.

As you bond a little more, find suggestions from teachers.

Head to the library. The librarians can help you find books about parenting teens, and you can let him wander the aisles to see what interests him.

what's wrong with the X-Men comics? It's reading, right? Sure, it's not the classics, but it's a start. Sounds to me as if he may enjoy graphic novels.  Get a few and leave them around - -see what happens

There is a book at Christian book stores or at Lifeway.com that is about raising boys (they also have one for raising girls). Not sure of the exact titles. My exMIL got them for my ex- I doubt he has read them though.

My son is 11 and reads at an accelerated level.  If your son loves the X-Men comics, I really think he may like the Maximum Ride Series by James Patterson.  I even like that series.  My son also enjoys anything Rick Riordan (mostly about either Egyptian or Roman gods and human interactions).  The Witch and Wizard series is interesting as well.

I agree with this. On average, it takes 4 years for bonds to form after a child that is not a birth child comes into an adults
's life. Don't try to force new things on him just yet or you can make that process much longer. Let him lead somewhat and itcan actually go a lot smoother and take less time.

I think as far as reading take him to a book store or library and let him pick out what he want.
