So a while back I was talking to the Mom of one of my daughter's friends. We were talking about how the girls were doing in school. I actually see this mom as a rather intelligent person, or at least, I did. This is their last year in elementary school, next year they go in to the Junior High. So this mom tells me that her daughter's teacher called her in for a confrence because her daugher was failing math.
Her daughter was not just failing the grade level the poor kid is only mastering 2nd grade math. That's WAY below where she needs to be. Then the mom giggles and says, "well I was NEVER any good at math anyways, so how can I expect her to be good at it?"
The daughter is aware of her Mom's attitude, so I really don't think that she is encouraged to even try to do better.
I just can't understand WHY a parent would be so accepting of a child's impending failure if they knew how to prevent it. My DD has actually offered to help her friend with learning the work, but the Mom says that that is not necessary. It's almost like she has resigned her self to the fact that her daughter is going to fail.
