My DS is turning 11. I am just not comfortable with it but all his friends have one.
So they lie about their age to get the facebook? Or are they linked to their parents pages?

You have to lie about your birthdate to get one before turning 13.
Thats not good. Im not doing that either.
Like the others have said, FB TOS says 13. I wouldn't lie for my child to get a FB account, and I honestly don't know if he will be getting one at 13, he's currently 12.
Someone in another group mentioned having them write an essay on why they should be permitted to have a FB account as well as what they feel proper behavior would be, etc. I can honestly see the benefits of doing something like that because you want to make sure that they are mature enough to handle the drama and immaturity that teens (and some older folks) seem to have on their FB.
My children already have a "social network." It's called SCHOOL. Kids that age do not need anything more.

We did give my son one before he was 13. His only FB friends are out of town family and two friends IRL. It is a great way for him to stay in contact with that family. He doesn't have any cousins his age near us, and so I was happy that he could connect to the ones out of state through FB.
