My 10 yo asked me tonight if she could start shaving her legs.I don't necessarily have a problem with it, but I'm not sure she is old enough. Her legs are hairy, but it's not dark hair. What do you think is a good age? I didn't start shaving unitl around 8th grade.

My daughter is ten and she wanted to start shaving last summer (she was nine then).  We talked about why she wanted to shave.  It was the long dark hair and she was in shorts and bathing suits.  She was embarrased.  Well, didn't happen.  I did however, let her use nair.  She is not shaving, which still scares the crap out of me, but she also has no hair.   She only does it once a month and only during the warm months when she is in shorts.  Since she started puberty last year her hair started getting darker, so I figured if she was uncomfortable about it then it had to be something we could work through.  She is not allowed to use a razor until twelve, but she is actually cool with the nair.  It does work on her legs.  Just wish I could get off as lucky.

My daughter is 11 and she shaves, she has very dark hair and it was quite noticeable. I just got her one of those intuitions razors and she does very well. She maybe has to shave once a month or so. Its not too bad. Terrifying to me LOL but she does well.

My daughter is now 13 & asked to shave at 10. Her legs were not dark, she had blonde hair on them & they were hairy. But I didn't let her shave until she was about 11 & 1/2 or 12. Her self esteem is better now because of it. I thought of myself at that age again & how awkward I was. I put myself in her shoes. I just felt it was time for her to go to that next stage.

I let my 5th grader start.  She has been handling it pretty well.  She is sitting right next to me as I type and she said they were hairy and itchy.  I was just excited that she  wanted to do something with her appearance.  I have a hard time just getting her to brush her hair enough.

I agree with the eye brows.  My daughter is not quite 10 and we have "Naired" her brows and her upper lip.  She is not about the waxing I made the mistake of letting her watch me get my lip waxed and she was way out on that!!

Quoting sahlady:

My daughter is 12 and in 6th grade.  She asked me if she could shave her legs when she was about 10.  I had no problem with it.  She was very embarrassed about the amount of hair on her legs (it had nothing to do with attracting the opposite sex!); she was just terribly embarrassed.

I allowed her to use Nare.  It smells horrible, but there was no way of cutting her self and the hair grows back soft, not stubbly.  She let the hair grow back and didn't ask again until she was about 11 1/2.  She got it out of her system back then....came to terms with having hair.....and knew that I would be there for her in a pinch.  It worked for us!!

Now the eyebrows are a whole different story.  I'm the one who insisted that she have two.  She now comes with me about every 35 days to have her brows waxed.

What about underarm hair?  I noticed my not quite 10 yo has some underarm hair, do I let her shave that?
