Hello,  I need some advice.   My dd has been talking to this boy from school who she likes but he recently sent her a picture of his private area.   Basically, we of course were upset and explained to her that it was VERY WRONG to send something like that plus, explaining to her that the boy obviously didn't respect her enough in the first place.   We told her she needs to tell him not to send anything like that again and so on.   She was crying because she really likes him but I don't know how else to let her know that he's a jack a_ _!!   I also had her txt him to give us his home phone or to call us because I wanted to speak with his mother or father about it.   Needless to say it took him txting a couple of times asking why and I had to finally get on the phone and txt saying that this is dd mother and would like for him to call.   He said okay and did.   My dd answered and told him that we found out about the picture and he said " omg,...are you okay?"   Then he said that he had to go get his mom and would call back.  It was  over an hour and 1/2 before he txt back asking my dd how much trouble she got in.   When I told her to tell him if his mom knew he said yes and that she didn't want to talk to anyone because she is mad.

I want to make sure his mom/dad knows what happened but how can I find out?   What would you guys do?   I don't want to ruin school life for her but yet no one should get away with that either.   Should I contact the school about this or leave it at that.   I basically feel that I need to teach my dd what is appropriate and not appropriate and what to do about it.   Any ideas or what else I can do for my dd?  Punishment etc?? ........................simple frown

  • I just saw this for the first time, so I quickly read through the comments.  I won't even get into that LOL!  But, here's my opinion, and a question.

Did this boy's parents ever get in touch with you?  If not, either this boy is lying and never told his Mother (which is probably the case) or they have a serious issue.  His parent's should not be ignoring this.  If he won't give your DD his home phone number, I'd ask her where they live and go over there - and I'd take my DH with me.  These parents either need to be informed that their son is sending explicit material from his cell phone, or they need a wake up call!  Atleast you'd know where they stood on the issue.

I agree it's probably stupid kid stuff, but he needs to know that what he is doing is wrong, and what harmful trouble he could be getting himself into.  If I were his parents, I'd want to know so that I could intervene.

I also wouldn't punish my DD unless I found out that she was sending inappropriate pics/texts too.  It doesn't really sound like she's done anything.  I'd use it as a learning opportunity with her...

Let us know what happens with the parents...

  • That is a WONDERFUL idea!! I will definatly remember that when it comes time to venture into the cell phone world with my kids!

We just gave my DS a phone (age 13) for Christmas.  We had him sign a contract with the terms that we would allow him to keep his phone and any misuse would mean he could lose it.

Anyone giving a phone should really think hard about as many the things a kid could possibly do to misuse it and set up the guidelines for usage and make it clear that they will lose their phone if it is misused. If more people did this there might not be as many problems...(imho)

  • no no do not involve the school...just because someone is of school age does not mean the school needs to be involved...sorry, its none of the schools business unless it happened at school.  This sounds like just a young boy, and yes he is a boy, he liked a girl and did something really dumb.  To the OP I would talk to the boys mom or dad and make it clear to your DD she can not have anyhing to do with this boy right now

Do I need to post all of the links by google searching "teen cell phone child porn"

There's WAYYYYYYYYYY too many of these going to the COURTS and these children being put on sex offender lists. It's out of control.  I'd NEVER consider going to the authorities or the school (who's required to report it to the police).

The legal system in THIS scenaro is way out of line and treating the situations completely wrong. Until its fixed, i'd never resort to it or tell anyone to resort to it.

It is infact a legal issue. The boy produced an indecent picture of his penis, which will be deemed as child pornography. He can be arrested and convicted as an adult in most states, for creating and distributing child pornography, possession of child pornography, corruption of a minor, sexual offense against a child, indecent exposure to a child.

ALL of the above can be charged to this child, and under the Adam Walsh Act, this boy would be required to register as a sex offender FOR HIS ENTIRE LIFE.

I'm not aruging the right or wrong of sex offender lists or laws. Im stating what could happen to this child.  And for those of you who dont beleive it is happening, wake up.

    Quoting katiesmom0926:

He is not a SEXUAL OFFENDER at 11! It's childish BS that needs to be stoped! and it will not be stoped with out a mediation! And who say's he's only 11 too????  we dont know how old he is..... at 11, she's probably 6th grade...... he could be 14-15....  an 8th grader??? either way....... I disagree, that as a young child he would get conviceted as a sexual offender....... it's not a legal issue! it is a moral one! and the only way it could go legal is if mama wants it too....

Im glad I was singled out for my opinion! when several others agree with me!  WAKE UP YOUR SELF!!! The school NEED'S TO BE INVOLVED!!!!!!!!!

I agree with this. i would involve the school. If he is sending this kind of stuff to this little girl what is he sending to other students? I would rather have my child safe than worry about the outcome of the little boy. He knows right from wrong and he made the choice to do something that is inappropriate and should be made to face the consequences.
