Okay the group is starting to take off a little....so maybe its a good time for intros!

My name is Angie and I have a four month old little boy. My little guy hardly cried at all after he was born....but within about 6 weeks things took a turn. Athyn was diagnosed with colic and I struggled to figure out what was really behind his crying for two months. THen one day it was gone just as fast as it arrived. So Athyn is much better now although I would still consider him a high need baby lol! So I started this group in hopes to relate to other mom's who know how hard it is to raise an infant with colic.

  • I think my son has colic.  He cries so much.  The first two weeks were great but now his is spitting up ALL the time and cries constantly when awake.  He had me up for two hours in the middle of the night before I calmed him down and got him to sleep.  My firstborn didn't do any of this so I am looking forward to the help and suggestions on this site.

    Thanks,
    Michele

  • Hi there. I am new to this site. i just read your comment and I thought I would share my thoughts with you.

I have a two month old son Nicholas. We found out Nicholas was colic about 3 weeks ago. At about 6pm his whole demeanor would change.  I would bath him, feed him, change him, rock him...and nothing would make him feel better. He would cry and cry. Then he would stop for a while and then he would bust out crying again. He has terrible gas so we changed our bottles. We use the Dr. Browne bottles. We also use Mylocon drops after each feeding. That is supposed to help with the gas. I was told by everyone who has been through this "you have to deal with it." Not what you want to hear. My doctor told us yesterday that it should pass in anothe month. I hope i can keep my patience till then. I have to say the past week he has been better. He wont sleep in his crib so i have him in bed with me which I dont like but if it keeps him happy, then i will do it.

Just wanted to let you know what I have been going through and to let you know there is an end in sight to this!

  • hey Girls,
My name is Andria...i am the proud mama of 2 kiddos...Sallie, who will be 3 on Friday and Daniel, who is 6wks old TODAY!  He is the troublemaker when it comes to me finding my way to this group.
I am still trying to determine what exactly is going on with him.  If he has colic or if he is just a majorly high maintenance baby.  Either way, he does apparently have some digestion issues that we are working our way through.  Gonna probably go visit the ped this week to get her take on it.  I just feel so badly for him and that there isn't a whole lot I can do except try and eat as simple as possible - breastfed baby.  He is such a sweetheart.
Otherwise, I have been greatly helped by reading a lot of the posts by you very strong and patient moms dealing w/colic.
all the best to you all and your babies!!

  • Hey everybody - My name is Erin.  My son, Mason, was born on December 21, 2006.  He developed colic and cried for about 3 months straight - just kidding - but it sure seemed like if he was awake, he was crying.  What a trying time!  He is now 6 months old and is just the happiest baby in the world.  I just joined cafemom and joined this group in hopes of offering support and advice to moms with colicky babies.  It is such a hard thing to understand unless you have actually been through it.

  • HI, I am Kandi and my colicky baby is now 10. He has Aspergers Syndrome, anxiety and ADHD...he is also my little buddy.

Noah had severe colic- when I was breastfeeding, it was 5 hours in lenghth. Our doc prescribed soy- and it went from 5 hours to 18 hours and 2 hospitalizations as Noah was becoming dehydrated from the lack of fluids and the sweating. It was awful.

I danced with Noah, took him outside- and just did whatever I could to make him happy and it worked. We established a bond that is still amazing to date.

I thought I would join to help other moms.

  • HI

My name is Ellie and I have a 2month old little girl named Sophie. Since she was 4 days old, she has screamed and screamed. For a while she did while I held her and cried myself. Thankfully I saw this site on a add on myspace and checked it out. I got alot of advice about formula and that helped alot and the name of another web site called, www.coliccalmers.com it has all kinds of stuff, swaddling blankets and cd's of vaccuum cleaners and stuff and books on colic and how to help.  I got the book The Happiest Baby on the Block it has tons of helpful stuff to calm them down. My baby will be 3 months old the 25th of this month and she is better and Ive finally got the Dr convinced she might have acid reflux and we've just started her on the baby zantac im just not sure how long it takes to kick in, she only sleeps in burst still other than that shes pretty happy.

  • hi, my name is becka and i have a 4 week old son name Dean.
Dean was super peaceful for a whole 2 days of life, then the crying started.
we thought at first it was the milk based formula we had been supplementing with until my milk came in good enough for his demands.so we switched to soy and breastmilk and started using the gas drops. he started spitting up with the crying and rigidity and gas then.
so  i went exclusivly to breast milk (since my supply was finally good enough). the spitting up lessened but the gas and screaming were worse. the doc reccommended going back to formula and formula only (milk protein allergy he says). so back to formula and trying to pump in between screamings cause now i am in pain too. atleast my breast was a comfort that always worked. the bottle not so much.
we also switched to those drop in liners, swaddling full-time, holding upright for 30 min after feedings, proping the mattress, etc. the spitting up is worse and it is harder than ever to comfort my little guy. i am so stressed i dont know what to do. my husband doesnt even want to hold him because he cant stand the screaming. the only sleeping he will do during the day is in the carry sling or in my arms.
tomorrow we meet with the ped agoin about more options.
i wish someone could figure this out. i know it is supposed to pass, but how do you make it to that point without losing your sanity and your partner??

  • Hi!  My name is Dagmar, pronounced "Doc-ma".  I have a 10 week old little girl that has had "colic" since she was 3 weeks old.  This is the hardest thing to go through.  Some days I feel like going back to work but know that this to will pass, just when!!!???  Tabitha has been on zantac, prevacid, and prilosec.  Nothing seems to work.  I also think she truly has the colic describe in "The Happiest Baby on the Block."  That is an awesome book that describes an infant's brain and nerves being stimulated too much and thus the baby cries.  I just hope this crying ends soon because my nerves are fried! :)  Hang in there everyone.  Any advices on meds or formula appreciated too.  We have already tried breast milk, and the soy based formulas, right now she eats nestle good start supreme.....

  • Hi everyone. My name is Katy and I have a two week old little girl named Bailey. I am not sure if she has colic (she has not been diagnosed) or if she just has really bad gas. Or is that colic? Mylicon does not seem to work. Anyway, we have switched her to soy formula thinking that would help but it seems as if every evening she just screams in pain with gas. I think she also may be constipated. She has an appointment with the dr. next tuesday. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
