Hey my name is Catie. I am 22 years old and married to the most wonderful man in the world! He is in the Army and I am an army wife! I am a new mom, first time mom, and we had a beautiful baby girl December 30th 2008. She was about 4 days overdue and had to be taken by csection because she was causing me to have high blood pressure!!!

Just wanted to introduce myself. . .

Well now here is the fun part! Isabel is oh 3 weeks old or so, and she is having signs of being constipated or have bad gas. I cant exactly put my finger on it but I am trying EVRYTHING! I have taken her for a warm bath, rubbed diaper rash ointment on her butt, and even gave her some water with a bit of prune juice in it. Not helping! She just cries and gets so upset and there isnt a "right way" to hold her to comfort her. She pees just fine but no poops! This is day 2 now and I am trying all I can. Isabel is a strictly breastfed baby and seems to resort to my boob when she is uncomfortable or in pain. So now I am nursing her triple of what she was nursing before. I had taken her temp from her butt and wala she craped a river! But that is the only way she goes? Another thing that worries me is when she cant poo she gets so upset by trying to go and then spits up everything she just ate. Now this happens quite often. I think she has signs of reflux? I dont know what else to do! I am losing my mind trying to figure it out!

Anyone know what I could possibly do? Something I can give her???

Thanks Bunches!

Hi Catie. I'm in the same boat as you are. Lacey has alot of trouble pooping. The dr said as long as she goes every 3 days and it is soft she is fine. But she is in alot of pain during those 3 days. I have given her diluted apple juice and it helps a little but not much. As far as the gas I use gripe water and it does give Lacey some relieve. I am bottle feeding Lacey but she is the same with her feedings as your daughter. She is constantly eating every couple of hours. The only other thing that calms Lacey down is carrying her in the baby holder. My hubby does this trick with her legs to help her go and it works sometimes too. He holds her in his arms and then holds her feet with his spare hand. He gentle pushes her leg up and then straightens them out. When Lacey starts to push down with both her feet, he gives her a little resistance and then usually in a few hours she goes. I hope this advice helps you and your little out.

HEY!

My little man is about 4.5 months now and I had the SAME problem with him. We used Mylicon for his gas ( gave it to him before his night time feedings, gas was worst than) when he was about a month old. we also found this warm vibrating pad for him that seemed to calm him just enough. We found it at www.onestepahead.com.

For his constipation.. haha... oh I feel u there! We tried everything and even the thermometer trick didnt work. So our doc had us give him pediatric suppositories?!?! We would cut them in half and they worked great! BUT we only could use them every 48 hours and he would get sooooooo pissed and his poor belly would get so hard that the pedi said every 24 hours. I know the thought of having to give a tiny baby a suppositories is frightening but it is harmless (it is just wax).

Honestly a lot of the problems started to slow down once he started kicking his legs more. We would make sure every night we would get him to kick his legs and he'd fart fart fart and feel soo much better.

Also go to utube and search happiest baby on the block

This was very helpful to for the colicy gas part!

I hope I was a some help...

Thanks Ladies! The doctor also told me to give her one ounce of straight prune juice to see what happens. She had calmed down for awhile here about a week or so and now all of a sudden she is crying and trying so hard to poop! But I am doing the thermometer in the butt thing again with her and she doesn't seem to mind it. I am also using the Good Start with bifidus in it. So hopefully things get coordinated!

Thanks again ladies!!!
