I need some help.......my baby girl is 2 and half weeks old. She has been on the Enfamil Lipil formula and we tried to breastfed some. She done great but for the past couple of days she has started acting like the formula bothers her. She has pooped non-stop for 2 days....some of the stools have been hard balls and some have been soft. We put Karo syrup in one of her bottles yesterday because of her hard stools. She was acting like it hurt to go to the bathroom is why we did it. My mother said that I couldn't use the Enfamil Lipil because it had too much Iron in it for my system. So today she has only been able to sleep about 20-30 minutes and then she wakes up crying. I can rock her and she will go back to sleep and do it again. She has also spit up twice today and she never has spit up that much in one day....you know maybe a little but not like she did today. She doesn't ball her legs up or anything so I don't know if she's getting Colic or if it's her formula. She also isn't crying uncontrolable. She will pout sometimes and not really cry. What has been everyone's experience? Thanks so much for all the help..........it makes me hurt because she's hurting.
Hi,
I understand how you feel. I have two children and both were colic. My son is now 7 years old and he was born two months premature, colic and projectile reflux. My daughter is four years old, colic with acid reflux. Although your little one is not spitting up, or spitting up some of the time, her little tummy is really hurting her. My daughter also has black stools. I took her to a gastro Dr. who just concluded she was colic. I nursed both of my kids. My son for three years and my daughter for 2 1/2 years. I really wanted to bottle feed my daughter so decided to nurse a little and bottle feed a little. Every formula I tried and even my milk irritated her little tummy. Colic is an immature immune system but does mature in time.
Warm baths, tummy rubbing, fresh air, chamamile tea, motion and very soothing music. I had a tape player attached to my daughters stroller and would play soothing classical music while walking. There were times when I just wanted to crawl in the stroller while listening to the music. Classical music is also great for brain development. I would put the music on while she slept if she slept then would regroup while she was cat napping.
Know it gets better and it is going to pass. I understand going through it is very difficult as I have been there two times.
Someone else suggested Highland tablets in another posting. I do not really remember if I used them or not as that part of life is a blur.
If I can offer you additional support, please feel free to contact me.
