We are NOT Fancy People

One night a week DH and I go out by ourselves and try a new resturaunt. One that we had seen and said to ourselves, "we should go there".

So saturday night we tried an Italian resturaunt that is not to far from us. I decided to order a glass of wine, to which I was told that they do not sell wine by the glass, only by the bottle. With some deliberation we decided to get the bottle. (should have been my first clue...but no) Then we move on to the appitizers. We ordered cheese sticks, because most of it we didn't know what it was. My DH whispers to me "nobody has tea" odd that no one would have tea...we are in Texas and I thought iced tea was a given...but i guess not. The waiter brings the wine pours DH a smidge and waits....Dh tries it and says "fill-er-up". I laughed. The waiter to that  goes Pffft. We look at the menu, And, No prices on the menu! UhOh! We ordered...The dinner was ok, nothing special really. The final tally on dinner was $90!!! for just the two of us!

***faint***

So, apperently we had stumbled upon a Fancy resturaunt...and we are just not fancy people. We are used to paying $50 for the 4 of us, thats the kind of places we go to.

Are you fancy?

Do you go to places like that?

Heck no!!!!

I used to do a "girls' weekend" twice a year, and we would go to a nicer Italian restaurant, but I'll bet we didn't pay more than $25 a person.  I'd rather go to a cheap buffet place with the grandkids than to go to a snooty restaurant like you described!

I went on a Caribbean cruise 6 years ago, and each night, we dressed up for dinner.  The menu offered some very fancy entrees (I tried escargot for the first and only time - I liked it!!!).  But the price was included in the cost of the cruise.

I am not a fancy person.  The only time I went to a fancy place was when I went to a conference in New York.  The first night we had dinner in the hotel.  For 8 people the bill came to almost $500.  We didn't do that again.

I have before, but prefer not to. IMy kids and I tried to go to a BBQ joint that had been there, but apparently it closed. We were in shorts and flipflops, when we saw the new signs, thought we'd check it out. Everyone was in suits, and there were no lights, but they offered to seat us immediately, I snuck over to table and looked at menues, NO PRICES!!! I said we're getting out of here. I wasn't taking 4 young people there, we'd still be washing dishes. LOL

2 moms liked this

Once in awhile I like to "splurge" if I have the money to do sol.  Last time I had the money was when Shannon and I visited Disney World.  I spent $80 on our meal and then another $20 for the tip.  But it was well worth the cost, remember when you pay that much you are paying for not only the food/drink but the atmosphere, the waitstaff and their training, the chef's who probably have degrees in the culinary arts, not a former counter person in McShits.  These are people who's career it is to do what they are dong, they're not doing it just because it is the only job they could get.

Luckily we didn't have to pay for it.  The state of Ohio was footing the bill for the trip.  The lady in charge spent a lot of time trying to come up with a good explanation to give the state.

LOL...sorry for laughing but when DH and go out for dinner just the 2 of us, we expect to pay 70-80 dollars for the meal (no alcohol) and we are about the unfanciest people I know. I consider $90 dollars for a bottle of wine, appetizers, dinner and a dessert to share a normal price at a nice restaurant but not a fancy one...DH and I went to one place for our 10th anniversary and had to leave because the entrees started at 120$ a plate now that is FANCY (pretentious BS is more like it lol).

I guess I dont mind paying a little more because I am a cook (at home and at work) so I dont want to pay for something I can make better at home, and that eliminates most of the cheaper restaurants and chain restaurants (except for Red Lobster and other seafood places, I dont do seafood much at home).

That's true...but like I said the food was just OK. I think I would have felt better if the food had of been to die for
