What made that pet special?
I waited so long to get one. My parents bought me a little black poodle when I was in jr high. She was special because she was my first. I would LOVE to have another little black poodle. But I think our dog that died one year ago was the best dog I will ever have. She was just so smart and easy to train. She was 30 lbs but acted like a big old lazy dog. And she had the most beautiful expressive brown eyes :) We adopted a dog a few months after Rosie died and she is the opposite. Very hyper, can't train her. I do love her though. But I just feel like no dog can live up to Rose, kwim?
I have had so many pets, I have had multiple cats/dogs all my life, and live on a farm so I have livestock too. Of course, any of my livestock that are not destined to be dinner tend to be pets too, LOL. One pet that was very special to me was a tiger cat name Malli that I had as a kid. I swear we had some kind of psychic connection, if I was hurt or sick, he could be out in the yard or exploring in the woods and he would be there asap. He passed away from feline luekemia when he was three years old. Never will be another cat like my Malli-cat. :(
Oh so many, lots from when I grew up of course, but 2 in particular from adulthood are special. Spanky was the first dog DH & I ever got together, she was a Shepard/Husky mix and she was just awesome. The kids used to torture her and she just took it all with her tail a waggin! Spanky was with us for 13 years. We still say she was the best dog ever!
Second would be Sakari, our first purebred Husky and our first dog in 6 years after we lost Spanky. After my Nephew passed there was such a hole in our hearts, we decided it was time for another dog. We drove all the way to Virginia to meet her and her sister, she was so sweet, we took her home. Sakari was our perfect Husky, the dog we always wanted . . . but at about 5 months old she started to behave strangely. Pacing every inch of the house and pressing her head up against the wall. After many tests it was determined she had an inoperable liver shunt and her life expectancy was 18 months if we took care of her properly which meant we had to make all of her food, she could not eat any meat, it would make her brain swell. We treated her like a Princess, it killed us when we finally had to put her down at almost exactly 18 months, her liver was shutting down completely as were her other organs. We were with her till the end, but the kids were crushed. DS sobbed for hours, he was 19 years old at the time.
All of my dogs have been my favorites. Their differen't personallities make them special. With the two I have now...Phoebe is a "princess" LOL. very dainty and picky about where her food dish is placed. If it is in the wrong spot she won't eat. Sophie is more of a "Tom Boy" She "boldly" goes where dumb dogs go and gets herself into trouble. But she is also a bit of a clown and takes care of Phoebe.
Well I have always loved dogs and growing up I had 3 beautiful bassets (mom and daughters) so I can't really choose. But the one that sticks out the most and has showed me strength and not to sweat the small stuff is my dear old Duke who we put to rest in 2009. He was a German Shorthair pointer who almost lost his life on 3 different occasions. He had allergies and was diagnoses with Addisons Disease at the age of 2 (we almost lost him then). Later he got cancer and had his leg removed. I have never seen a dog give so much and be so happy with all that he had gone through. I learned so much from him and miss him everyday.
My favorite pet was Razberry. He was a red doberman. He was given to us when I was pregnant with my 1st child and loved my children so much he would clean their faces for me and live under their high chair waiting for dropped food. He lived to a ripe old age of 14. I will miss him.....
All of them. LOL All of my dogs. :) I guess Casey and CJ have a very special spot with me though. Casey was the kind of dog who would rather be with me than have food or water....even if he was hungry. CJ...well, he didn't know he was a dog. I had to bottle feed him from the time he was 2 days old. He thought I was his mama. lol Casey was CJ's daddy. OMG do I miss them!!!!!
