bad for the neighborhood???

This morning we found a note on our driveway.  Someone had written, "no christmas lights in June-bad for the neighborhood!!!!!!!"

Now, we have a 300 foot driveway to our house which sits behind the house in front, on a wooded lot.  It cannot be seen easily from the street at all (we never get any trick or treaters, and the pizza guys can never find us.)  Two years ago after seeing garden lights on houses in the city, in California, and at restaurants everywhere, we decided to solve our lighting problem by putting up white garden lights on our house and trees up by our house.  It looks so pretty, and lights it up nicely.  At Christmas we put up colored lights and turn off the white ones, and after christmas we took down the colored ones and turned the white ones back on.

I love my pretty white garden lights and I am annoyed at the cowardice of someone leaving an anonymous note.  I dont understand who would do it, the only three houses who can see our yard all deny having done it.

Here is my question:IS it somehow bad for the neighborhood if people think my house has white christmas lights in front, and should I care?  I cant afford to install landscape lighting.  I thought it was trendy.

Your thoughts???

I bet it looks nice.

Before I had lights installed in my backyard I had my santa, christmas penguin, pumpkin and snowman lit up for light and it worked just fine and was kind of fun.

Ignore them! Uptight if they care that much!

Some of the very best restaurants and places to see use them year round.  It probably looks very nice.

Barring any HOA rules, which, highly doubt considering how rural the location sounds, you should make a sign out of the lights that says mind your own beeswax. And put it on one of those variable things that makes them flash, then fade in and out, then chase.

It's your house...have as many lights as you want! If they are so worried about it, they should come talk to you personally and explain why it's so bad for the neighborhood!

The only feasible solution... put up MORE lights!!!  lol

I say ignore them. If it had been an actual "community" letter it would have been either mailed to you or at the very least, placed on your door. And signed. Just some busy body poking their nose where it doesn't belong. Look back at who can see your house(one of those 3 neighbors) or anyone in  your neighborhood who's been over at your home in the evening. There's your culprit. I would never live in a community for this exact reason. Nosy jerks! Good Luck!
