What are your fondest memories you have of your dad?

My dad was a hard man as he didn't show much affection towards us. But every year we went to this amusemnt park in Canada called Crystal Beach. See they would give a certain amount of tickets towards every letter grade on you report card. So we would go there and he would let loose and be "kid like" and have fun! Also his company picnic woul also be at an amusement park called Fantasy Island and again he would be a kid again and would go on all the rides with us! He sure loved the amusement parks!

Trips are my favorite memories of my dad. He always made sure that we had lots of fun on vacations and day trips. He was a truck driver and in the summer when I was a kid, I got to go on some of the runs with him. He hauled potatoes for the potato chip factories. What a cool time we would have seeing how chips and other snacks were made. I really miss him, but the memories keep him close to me always.
My dad loved animals and he would talk baby talk to our little poodle. He was a quiet, respected Captain in the Dane Co. sheriff Dept. When I was little I use to snuggle with him in his den and watch Red Skeleton with him and his belly would jiggle when he laughed. I regret my behavior as a teenager that ruined our relationship. Unfortunately he died when I was in my early 20's.
My Dad had a good sense of humor as well. He would sing funny songs like Roger Miller's. He would say things like, "If you make yourself burp too much, your stomach will turn inside out." And, "Coffee puts hair on your chest."
We would sit around and snack on what my friends called "weird stuff" - home-made potato chips, pickled herring, sardines and mustard, pickled pigs feet, mustard on soda crackers and pretzels. He was the popcorn-maker. My Mom would burn it.
Oh, and by the way, I shave my chest regularly.
Weird ones probably. Very small, he was always holding me in his arms and on his lap. I remember going to work with him, riding on his bulldozer, playing at the sandpit, going to the houses he was building. Everytime I smell cut wood, it brings me right back to my childhood memories in his woodshop. I remember being in his office, very young...like 5...and I kept questioning him looking at house plans, and he finally took out our house plan, and explained it. It all made sense then. I remember his airplane.
About a year ago I was talking to him on the phone and when we went to hang up I said I love you, he said "I love you too babe" that was the first as an adult that he had told me that.
Wasn't it great to have an excited grandpa?
Quoting Bmat:That he was so excited when we announced that we were expecting. :)
What a fun time to have a dad and me memory!
