Whenever I am in the sun for an extended period of time, I get a hive like rash and small pimple like bumbs on my exposed skin, even when I wear sunscreen. It is very itchy and wil spread soetimes if I scratch at it. IT is not a heat rash.

Does anyone else have this poblem? Any suggestions on how to avaoid breaking out all the  time ?

Odd...maybe you have developed an 'allergy' to it on your own. definitley check it with a dermatologist.

I just noticed recently I have 'sun spots'..ugh..getting older sucks...lol

nope, I don't even take a multi-vitamin

Quoting Rileyscute:

Are you on any medications? Some meds have sun sensitivity as side effects but most ignore it...

Could be an allergic reaction to the sun :(

My daughter, the oldest one has the exact same thing happen to her but it doesn't happen all the time. It's weird. Does it always happen to you?

more often than not, usualy if I am out in the sun for more than half an hour or so. It has happened a few times when I have been out in the sun as little as ten minutes.

I know what that is!  My boss had that exact same condition, it's called polymorhic light eruption.   She has to get a shot in the spring, (we live in Wisconsin so it's not a issue year round here) from the dermatologist for it, I believe she also takes allergy tablets for it. Without this she developes a hives type, red rash just like you are describing. It's basically a reaction to the sun.  A appt. with a dermatologist is in order!

My mom gets this she was told it was a reaction to her metformin .. She loves the sun and gardening but lately has to cut her time short.. She really has no remedy for it .. She might wear a long sleeve blouse if it's cool enough.. Or she gets her gardening done on her days off early in the mornings to avoid to much sun, she loves being out on our boat and for some reason she doesn't get this out on the water ??? but we don't really sit still.. I am sorry wish I could be of more help feel better .. P.S. have you consulted a dermatologist?? Perhaps they can offer a solution...

my daughter has this, nothing really helps her she has tried benadryl when she knows she is going to be out for a long time but she can just run to the store and come back covered in a rash
