Thank you, everyone. I've made an appointment for late this afternoon, 5:30 CST. I explained what's been going on, and said I think it might be "time", but I am afraid of making the wrong decision. They're going to do an exam first.
My daughter called this morning and asked, "How is she?" She's no better of course, in fact when I offered her food, she stood up, hobbled painfully away, and started making some retching noises. Then she meowed 3 times very sadly, pitifully, painfully, laid down under the coffee table. She was still there when I left for work. I"m a basket case. I know I'm not getting much done today, but thankfully, most of the people I work with in the office are pet people, too, and they understand. My boss even teared up when I told him. He's a big softie when it comes to kids and pets. And his doberman is going thru some health issues now, too, so he totally understands. Our receptionist very tactfully tried to tell me what will happen, but her best words were that it is very peaceful.

Time Out for You
I know it's hard but like the others said you look into their eyes and just know when it's time. I brought Skeeter home from the vet with pain meds and let all the kids come say good bye. Then the next day I took him back and sand sat with him crying until they came and led him away. We miss him but know that he isn't suffering any more.
My heart goes out to you.

I know how you feel. I am going through the same thing with my 13 yr old dog and was in tears for a few days a couple of weeks ago. I havent put her down yet because she is doing much better. The research I read says to count how many good days and bad days they have. If they dont eat or have incontinence. If the bad days outweighs the good by 5 to 2 then it is time if they are in alot of pain they wont eat. Then its time.
Sorry to hear she is doing poorly. OH I wish you well! We do love our pets. hugs, Robin
We had a kitty named Chloe too.
My beloved dog Rosie died over a year ago. We knew she had cancer of the lungs and I was so hoping she was just going to die in her sleep because I couldn't bring myself to put her to sleep. Unfortunately she died in the middle of the night, suffering and chocking to death. I am still haunted by it and cannot forgive myself for letting her suffer like that. I tell you this to try to give you comfort if indeed you decide to put her to sleep. I was with my dd when she had her kitty put to sleep and it was very peaceful (for the cat). Good luck and (((hugs))).
I'm glad you told me this - I've been saying that I've been wishing that I'd walk into the house, or wake up in the morning, to find that she's passed, but you bring up a great point. I don't want her to suffer.
I'm sorry that you still haven't forgiven yourself, but I honestly think Rosie would want you to. I'm sure she'd understand why you did the way you did. Pets are very forgiving, so please, for Rosie, forgive yourself.
Thank you again, this has really helped me.
