Whats the last one you made?

I cook a big meal at least once a week, usually more.

Tonight its a treat of fried pork chops, rice, gravy, turnip greens, and biscuits. With butter and jams, giaridinare (spicy pickled veggies) and of course crystal hot sauce that my family puts on everything. Iced tea to drink.

We love asparagus and beets. How did you cook the beets, roast them?

Quoting Esmrlda:

Last night. Salisbury steak with homemade gravy, Mashed potatoes. AspAragus baked with olive oil and minced garlic, beets and sliced tomatoes out of the garden.

No I steam them in the microwave. Slice them about a centimeter thick and then nuke them for about 4 1/2 mins.

When we went to go visit my dad this last summer he had grew some in his garden and made some for us.  So now were on this beet craze.  And they are a miracle food for your liver.

Yum. I need to get some! My dad was just talking about fixing purple topped turnips on the phone. I don't even know if I can get those here but I can get beets.

I've slowed that down since working but now that work is so slow I know I will be cooking more.

What does he eat for his dinner at work?

Quoting jabs54:

I'm so glad I don't have to cook a big meal everyday anymore!!!!!  Since my dh got a 2nd shift job a few years ago it's just me and my dd.  We usually have a salad, or a fried chicken burger and veggies, or if we're lazy a bowl of cereal :)

He eats lunch with us (me and my daycare kids).  I usually make him a sandwich or when we have pasta or pizza he'll have that.  For supper he eats a big meal at the cafeteria.  He does usually have one day off during the week so I will make supper on that day.  All winter I make crock pot meals so it's ready when I'm done working.

my kids loved when I just blanched the asparagus, then put a couple pats of butter on it when it was still hot and sprinkle it with red wine vinegar. Try that too, its really good! Like a warm asparagus salad!

Thats convenient and nice to have a cafeteria for him to get a hot meal :) I would love that too. I love having cereal for dinner.

I would love to know that recipe. I make my grandmothers and its made in a pot on the stove, not in the oven. I want to try the oven version. Is yours?

Quoting lisamarie1265:

We have our big meal on Sundays ... I cook during the week but Sunday is the family meal, my oldest daughter loves to cook so she generally does it, but the last one I made was a couple of weeks ago I made my mil's (rest her soul) stuffed cabbage, it's an old recipe and a lot of work but worth it when done, I made homemade whipped potatoes and for desert I made zucchini bread from my last two zucchinis of the season. Wine, beer, iced tea to drink....

I've never made the schniztel or spaetzel. Is it hard?

Quoting Cindy18:

Saturday was Chicken Schniztel, Spaetzel, Orange Glazed Carrots (ick), Gravy, Mayo Bisciuts.
