a 16-yr old is responsible for the Walmart racial announcement
Police in NJ found the person who made the Racial announcement at WalMart telling all Black people to leave the store. They said a 16-yr old boy grabbed a courtesy phone and made the announcement.
What would promote a child/teen to do this?
What should be done as punishment to this teen?

Stupid parents I guarantee you he was raised in an enviroment where racism was accepted. I think he should have to do community service for Walmart for a certain period of time and research and write a report on segregation.
I agree!!

I disagree on the stupid parents comment. By that age kids are pretty much inspired more by their friends.
Kids do stupid stuff. It doesn't mean he's racist or that he has been taught to be racist by his parents. A 16 year old has a mind of their own and it's usually on the idiot frequency.
As for punishment...community service is fine, but not for Wal Mart. Community means for the community. Let him pick up trash on the side of the road.

Walmart is the injured party it is where he needs to make amends. If his parents had raised him that racism is unacceptable and what it means, where it comes from he would never have done what he did.

I still disagree. Parents can teach and guide their children in all the right ways, but when those children get to a certain age their morals and all their parents tried to instill in them can fly out the window.
To say it's bad parenting that caused this is judgemental and just as bad as judging a person for their race or religion.

I have kids of different races everytime I have had to help my kids deal with a kid that was a racist their parents were never far behind. If a child is raised to know the harm racism can do those kids will never take it lightly. I have two grown daughters I know abou teen agers doing stupid things. racism is a learned behavior.

As a parent of two bi racial children and grandparent to 5 we see it all the time. I have heard teens say things and you go talk to the parent and they are just as nasty. I am not saying ALL kids get this type of behavior from their parents but most do. my son had someone call him a wetback, he even said later that his father hated mexicans and called them all wetbacks. The mayor of our town we once lived in just knew because my boys were mexican they would join gangs and be in trouble all the time. well come graduation day he told them how wrong he was about them. Peer pressure maybe but parent influence most of the time.

Sorry, but I gotta tell ya...I find the first sentence a little offensive.
My oldest son (age 23) is quite racist...a facet of his personality that I'm very ashamed of! He was NOT raised it a 'hateful' or 'ignorant' home where racism was accepted or even TOLERATED. My younger son (age 22) isn't the LEAST bit racist.
My point is, unless or until you know all the facts, you cannot 'blame' the parents for a teenager's thoughtless actions. By that age, they pretty-much have a mind of thier own. He was most likely in the store with a couple of buddies and was showing off.
