so my 3 yr old has always even when I was pregnant with him been a night owl. I can get him to sleep one of two ways giving him a bath and making him fight me cause he hates baths it wears him out and he goes to sleep. or I give him camamile or sleepy time tea.  problem is I can get him to sleep but he can't stay asleep. he has a tendency to wake up around 1 am. and when he does I cant get him back to sleep till about 5 am. He sometimes naps and I don't put him to bed early it is usually down at 930 sometimes like now he is just starting to drift off and it is 1045 11 is average for him to go to sleep. but then he wakes about 1-3 am usually and cant get back to sleep. so those of you who have had kids with this problem or have it yourself is there a trick to getting him to sleep all night? like a tea I can give him or something. he is only ppcd right now but I have to get him lined out before kindergarten. any ideas how to make him stay asleep.

We are haivng the same trouble here.My friend suggested trying to lay him down for a hour nap during the day.He plays himself out all day and will fall asleep at 8 pm them wake up refreshed & ready to stay up til wee hours of the morning.I cant get my school work done because of noise level and he will be going to pre k in the fall. His birthday is after the Sept 1st deadline for kindergarten so he will be 5 in prek.We are practicing school now and it works a little but he likes to stay up after taking a late nap.

Hugs and I hope you can find something soon to help.

sleepy time tea is how I get him to go to sleep but it won't keep him asleep. day care gives him a nap. I am so running away.

Good luck I have had the same problem with my 11 year old.  He has always been like that.  Sorry I know that does not sound encouraging but some nights are better than others.

Meletonin....is what works for us, the pediatrician says that it is the safest and it is all natural.  My seven year old has ADHD and has had sleep problems for years. We have used meletonin with the dr's blessing since she was three or four.
