We will be visiting the Gatlinburg area in August.  Anyone have any suggestions on what to do/see?

Yes, we have googled around and have a list; but it is always nice to get a personal recommendation.

We are athletic and love out door activities.  We dont mind some touristy things but would like to see/do something that is unique to the area.  We are food adventurous and would love restaurant suggestions.

We will be in Gatlinburg for one day with out a car.... then in a cabin near by with a car for the rest of the week.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

We were in Chattanooga last week, but we've been to Gatlinburg many times. If you are a member of AAA, they can send you all kinds of info. You can also go online and get things sent to you. I know there is ziplining available in the area. There is also river rafting. In downtown Gatlinburg there is a spaceneedle that you can go to the top of and see the town area from up above. There is also a sky-lift chair that can take you to the top of the mountain. You will can spend the day in Gatlinburg walking up and down the streets and going through the shops. There is a wax museum and a motion theatre. We had dinner one time at Bubba Gumps Shrimp, kind of fun, but pricey. They are all about Forrest Gump trivia! We like driving up to the top of the mountain. You will usually see a bear or some kind of wildlife and there is a place called Cade's Cove, where you can drive through and see the wildlife. Pigeon Forge is the next town over and it is full of things to do like shows, shopping, miniature golf, go carts, etc. There's another town not far from there that is called Cherokee and there's a casino and hotel with a Paula Deen restaurant. I wasn't all that impressed with the food actually though! It's a beautiful casino, but the buffet just wasn't good in my opinion. There is a restaurant called the Apple Barn in Pigeon Forge that a lot of people love. The Dixie Stampede is also in Pigeon forge and its a show with horse and dinner included. I haven't been, but I've heard that it's a really good place to go!

You must go through the Titanic museum in Pigeon Forge. It's awesome if you are interested in that. Hope this helps!!

GREAT info kim!  thanks!

We are DEFINATELY going to the Titanic museum.  I LOVE the idea of the sky needle and the sky lift.

I will google cades cove & the casino.  Is Paula Deans restaurant a buffet????

Bubba Gump is a chain... been there done that and once was plenty for me... not really my kind of food.

Yes, the Paula Deen restaurant is a buffet. It's in Cherokee at the hotel at the Harrod's casino!

Yeah, probably, and you have to drive to that town over the mountain to get to it anyway!

Starting to get nervous about "the mountain".  people keep making comments about driving it.  Is it really a scary road?  Is it a small road?
