Do you have a duty to fit in with your neighborhood?

What are your thoughts on this?

When you remodel or rebuild, do you have a duty to your neighbors to maintain a consistent style for the neighborhood? Have you experienced something similar?

No, we all live in the same company provided housing. All with the same landscaping, etc.

Me neither! That's why I live in the country now!

The big orange splot by Daniel pinkwater is how I think neighborhoods should be (the ending)...praise all of us mr plumbeams!

(I do wish our neighbors would put up a fence though-----so no one has to see their pure crap junk piles...I don't care how they live... I just don't wanna see it!!!)

Yes, we have a strict hoa. I like it though...helps keep the home values up when everyones house looks nice and presentable.

Not with this house, thankfully. We do have certain restrictions on activities due to living right on the Chesapeake Bay, to keep the water healthy.

Last house I owned, I had to ask permission to paint my shutters a different color then the original. I was denied and that attributed to me selling. Ridiculous!

Nope! We live where my grandma lived for 40 years just across the street and nothing has really changed.

Our neighborhood has an association. It has lots of rules & restrictions. I don't know all the scoop but you hear bits of news from neighbors occasionally when someone has gotten into trouble. The board really has a hard time really enforcing some of the stuff. Yes we have an architecture approval before you can build too.

Wow!  We were considering moving into some kind of neighborhood after we sell this old beast we live in, but now I'm reconsidering that.  I can understand why people in a neighborhood want to set some standards, but if something happens and a family is unable to, it adds a little too much pressure for my taste.

if we were to remodel or anything, I wouldn't worry about what others thought, our landscaping is entirely different than anyone in the neighborhoods.
