Can anyone reccommend a good cheap gift for older boys. These are for my friend's two - they are 10 and 13. Last year I bought my son (12) a book which he actually liked...you know...boys and books... it was called How to Rap...took it to his room and I didn't see him for the rest of the holidays.

iTunes gift cards, gift certificates to a popular fast food restaurant, ear buds, (I'd steer clear of books unless you know their tastes and reading levels), movie passes...

I agree with the above poster that boys that age might not read or have a different taste in reading. I would ask the parent what they like and go from there.

My 10 y/o is into monster trucks and action figures. Hope this helps.

 I'd do movie passes.

You said 'cheap' but I wish I had more of an idea on the price ceiling.

Maybe a couple of things that they could do together?  Games like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, Battleship, or Connect Four game and a deck of Uno cards.

Maybe dvds of cool new movies like The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers and boxes of popcorn & packs of Twizzlers.
