How do you properly boil an egg?

one of us thinks you should put the eggs into the water, put the pot on the stove, and boil them.

the other one of us thinks you should boil the water, then add the eggs.

I put the eggs in the water then on the stove and when the water begins to boil I turn my timer on.
When I do it the other way I always crack my egg putting it in the pot.

I've done it both ways.  I don't think it really makes a difference.  As long as they boil for 10 minutes, they seem to taste fine.

I heard Martha Stewart recommend you put the eggs in the water to boil and start a timer for 13 minutes and then shut off the burner. Everytime I've done this, they turned out perfect.

This is what I do too. Bring them to a boil, turn off the heat, and put a lid on.

I put water in pot, put eggs in water, turn stove on and wait until it boils then turn timer on. I've been doing it this way for over 20 years.

I usually just put the eggs in the water then on the stove & when it starts boiling I wait about five minutes then shut the stove off & just the eggs sit in there for a about 20 minutes or so ... then I run it under cold water to & peel & eat...
