Quick Facts

Best Known For

Actress Florence Henderson played Carol Brady, the mom of a blended family with six children, on The Brady Bunch sitcom.

Actress Florence Henderson was born on February 14, 1934, in Dale, Indiana. She appeared on Broadway and also starred in the national tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma. Henderson was The Tonight Show's first female guest host. In 1969 she landed the role that made her famous, Carol Brady on The Brady Bunch. The sitcom ran for five years. Beginning in 2008, Henderson hosted The Florence Henderson Show.

Actress Florence Henderson was born on February 14, 1934, in Dale, Indiana. The youngest of 10 children, Henderson began performing at an early age. She attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, and quickly started a successful theater career. Rodgers & Hammerstein selected her for the lead in the national tour of Oklahoma, and she appeared on Broadway in Noel Coward's The Girl Who Came to Supper.

In 1970, she made her first feature film, The Song of Norway and she was a regular guest on variety and talk shows with Ed Sullivan, Merv Griffin, Steve Allen and Dean Martin. Henderson holds the distinction of being the first woman ever to guest host The Tonight Show.

The role for which Henderson is most famous came in 1969. For five years, she played the quintessential sitcom mom Carol Brady on TV's The Brady Bunch. The show was a hit, and became increasingly popular in re-runs. It is now considered a cultural icon of the '70s, spawning two feature "spoof" films in the mid-'90s.

Since then, Henderson worked as a producer on the Nashville Network's Country Kitchen for nine seasons, and guest starred on numerous sitcoms, including Roseanne, and as a recurring character on Dave's World. In 1999, Henderson joined NBC News as c-ohost of the morning show Later Today.

In 2008 Henderson became the host of her own show, The Florence Henderson Show which was nominated for an Emmy in 2010.

Henderson has four children, Barbara, Lizzie, Joseph, and Robert, with her first husband Ira Bernstein, to whom she was married from 1955 to 1985. She married hypnotherapist John Kappas in 1987. He passed away in 2002.

    • Strange, but true: "The Brady Bunch" was not a smash hit during its initial run from 1969 until 1974. Instead, it's been in syndication that the sitcom has really blossomed. But while the Bradys have stayed the same age onscreen, the actors who've played them have grown up. To celebrate Brady matriarch Florence Henderson's 80th

birthday, break out your bell-bottoms and take a look at where this groovy TV clan is today.

      •

        Florence Henderson

        Played: Carol Brady

Playing a mother of six must have come easy to Florence: In real life, she's the youngest of 10 children! Not only was Carol one of TV's best moms, she was also one of the most stylish. Who could forget her fabulous

        '70s hairdos?

        • Like Carol, Florence Henderson has walked down the aisle twice. In 1956, she married Ira Bernstein, with whom she had four children, but the couple split in 1985. Florence has since admitted that she cheated on her first husband, notably with former New York City mayor John Lindsay, whom she says gave her crabs. (Eww!) In 1987, she married hypnotherapist John Kappas, who died in

          2002.

Although Florence never eclipsed playing Carol Brady, she's remained pretty active in Hollywood. She currently stars on Emmy-nominated "The Florence Henderson Show," which airs on Retirement Living TV. She's also made the reality-TV rounds, appearing on season 11 of "Dancing With the Stars" and season 6 of "The Surreal Life."

    Barry Williams

    Played: Greg Brady

He sang! He danced! He surfed! He played football! Yup, Greg was a heartthrob and so was Barry, who played him.

Barry Williams hasn't totally let go of his Brady days. In 1992, he released a memoir, "Growing Up Brady: I Was a Teenage Greg." Among the book's revelations were Barry's romance with his TV sister Maureen McCormick and his crush on his onscreen mom, Florence Henderson. Then, in 1999, he put out an album titled "Return of Johnny Bravo," a nod to Greg's musical alter

ego. Still, he's had some non-Brady jobs, including musical theater tours and hosted a show on SiriusXM's '70s on 7.

Barry has been married twice. He wed ex-Miss Arizona Diane Martin in 1990, but the couple divorced two years later. He made his way down the aisle for a second time in 1999 with investment banker Eila May Matt, but the marriage ended in 2005; they share a son, Brandon. In 2012, Barry welcomed a daughter, Samantha, with his girlfriend Elizabeth Kennedy.

      • Maureen McCormick

        Played: Marcia Brady

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia! Maureen certainly had the pedigree for playing perky and poised Marcia, the oldest Brady sister: At age 6, she won the Baby Miss San Fernando Valley beauty pageant.

        • Maureen McCormick had a rough time after "The Brady Bunch" went off the air. The actress became addicted to cocaine and Quaaludes. In her 2008 tell-all, "Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice," she wrote that she went so far as to trade sex for drugs. She also suffered from depression and bulimia. During this dark period, Maureen's career began to fade away.

Things turned around for her when she met Michael Cummings; the couple married in 1985. Although she still suffered from depression, she got sober. Their daughter, Natalie, was born in 1989.

Maureen still acts occasionally, but she has never surpassed Marcia Brady. She also released a country album, "When You Get a Little Lonely," and appeared on "Celebrity Fit Club."

            • Christopher Knight

              Played: Peter Brady

As a boy going through puberty on a sitcom, Peter had his fair share of embarrassing moments, like his voice changing. But he turned out pretty well and was eventually a hit with the ladies.

            •

            • And a ladies' man he remained! Christopher has been married (and divorced) three times. His most notable marriage was to "America's Next Top Model" star Adrienne Curry, whom he met while filming 2005's "The Surreal Life" and is 25 years his junior. They even got their own VH1 show, titled "My Fair Brady." The couple split in 2012.

Christopher continued to act until 1988, when he decided to leave Hollywood and work in sales for a tech company. He's continued to work in the computer field and has even founded a number of his own companies

                • Eve Plumb

                  Played: Jan Brady

A classic middle child, awkward Jan always lived in big sister Marcia's shadow and had trouble finding where she fit in.

Jan might have been the most awkward Brady, but Eve Plumb was the first of the Brady children to get married. However, her first marriage to Rick Mansfield didn't last; they split in 1981 after two years. She has been married to computer analyst Ken Pace since 1995.

After "The Brady Bunch" ended, Eve tried to branch out past Jan. Not only did she play a teen prostitute in 1976

NBC television movie "Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway," but that same year, she was the only Brady to decline returning for variety series "The Brady Bunch Hour." (She returned for later spin-offs and specials.) Other notable credits include starring on Saturday morning sitcom "Fudge" and playing Jackie Burkhart's mom on "That '70s Show."

But although she continues to act here and there, what Eve mainly focuses on nowadays is art. She does still-life oil paintings, some of which have sold for $5,000 in galleries.

DD LOVES the Brady Bunch! She does get mad at me though when I recite the dialog and sing the songs. And she knows not to talk to me when Davy Jones is singing. LOL! Happy Birthday, Florence!

    • Mike Lookinland

      Played: Bobby Brady

A natural blond, Mike had to dye his hair black to fit in with his Brady brothers and father.

      • It's ironic that Bobby was a safety monitor at school because in real life, Mike Lookinland hasn't been a Boy Scout. He battled alcoholism for years, and in 1997, he was cuffed for drunk driving in Utah. He says he's been sober ever since. He's been married since 1987 to his college sweetheart, Kelly Wermuth, with whom he has two sons, Scott and Joe.

Mike spent a few years trying to make an acting career work, but eventually decided to become a cameraman. (He worked on shows like "Everwood" and movies like "Halloween 5.") However, he left Hollywood completely in the mid-2000s to make concrete countertops

          • Susan Olsen

            Played: Cindy Brady

Susan was up for three different shows when she chose to play the youngest one in curls. Why, you ask? Because by doing "The Brady Bunch," she would have five kids to play with on set.

          • Susan Olsen has pretty much left acting behind, although she does take on roles here and there. Instead, she's worked in radio, graphic design and marketing. She also creates pop art, specializing in pieces featuring Marshmallow Fluff. (Yes, you read that right.) In addition, Susan spends a lot of time working with animal rescue charities. However, Susan hasn't completely left her

Brady past behind her. In 2009, she released a coffee table book, "Love to Love You Bradys," which focuses on the short-lived "Brady Bunch Variety Hour."

Susan married her third husband, Chris Fonseca, in 2009. Her son Michael, who was born in 1996, has mild Asperger's syndrome.

              • Ann B. Davis

                Played: Alice Nelson

Ann played the Bradys' faithful housekeeper, who could always be relied on for delicious pork chops and applesauce or a self-deprecating joke. Oh, Alice!

                  17 of 20

In 1976, Ann B. Davis moved to Denver to join an Episcopal community. She currently lives in a religious community in San Antonio, Texas, which focuses on prayer, Bible study and community works. However, Ann didn't leave the Bradys behind altogether. Not only has she appeared in the "Brady Bunch" spin-offs and TV movies, she released a 1994 cookbook, titled "Alice's

                  Brady Bunch Cookbook."
