"Be Impeccable with your word: speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love."

In The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, the first agreement Ruiz prescribes is to be impeccable with our words.

Wonderful post!  Even though we do not see the pain harmful words can have we see their manifestations.

I love that book too. I agree with all four 'agreements'. They are wise ways to live.

Quoting .Holly.: I have that book. Good read.

I agree! My tongue was the hardest thing for me to tame. I used to cut people to the core with my words if you gave me reason. You hurt me? Well I am going to get you worse with my words. Thankfully it was the first thing I worked on after becoming a christian. I can say proudly that I now have control 99.9% of the time. I choose my words more carefully and often just walk away. Words leave no visible scars but they hurt worse than a knife.
