This is my absolute dream tattoo. When i turn 30 in 4 years I want to get this done. My husband on the other hand does not like it because of 2 reasons. First he calls this another "tramp stamp". I think it is absolutely rediculous bcus noone would see this unless i am in a bikinni and he replies with the fact that i would be trying to draw attention to a sexy part of my body. UGH!! Secondly, he thinks that as my body ages, the words will become distorted and look really crappy. I really hope he is wrong about this because the serenity prayer means a lot to me and this is the only place where i would want to get it. ANY ADVICE LADIES????

it looks nice. but honestly... anything u get will probably not look so good when your old.... it just happens... im covered, so i will just look crappy all around.  as long as u get a great artist to do it .... you should still be able to read it always... unless u gain tons of weight, then it might get super distorted. i say get it. i want somthing on my side so bad, but im a bit nervous because its very tender there

I voted yes because ALL tattoos distort and blur with age.  But as MomaFied said, if a good artist does the work, it should look nice for quite a long time.  It will probably take 20+ years for it to start looking bad if a decent artist does the work.  And at that time, if you don't like the way the lines are blurring, you can have it cleaned up all over again.  We do a lot of "restoration" tattoos at our shop, a lot of military tattoos from the 70's especially, and it's amazing how a few lines and some shading can make a tattoo look brand new all over again.

@ MomaFied, yes the side does hurt!  But if you find an artist that is willing to take it nice and slow, it's not too bad.  My side piece took 9 hours total, broken down into 4 sessions.  The first session was outline only and took 3 hours, then we did 2 hour sessions from that point forward.  And it's mostly really painful up towards the ribs, not the lower portion of the side.  That tickled!  If you look at the picture above, the first 5 lines were the area that was most painful to me, the second 5 lines were what tickled mostly!

If you want it get it. It is going to hurt. I understand why you want it, my husband is 7 years sober. I have a huge side piece and I absolutly love it.

i voted "yes". it is an awesome tattoo, but most tattoos will distort with age. and i know words are the worst. i wouldn't get words tattooed anywhere that can change (i.e. if you gain/lose weight, ect.). also, if you have another child, it would distort, and i'm not sure that words can go back to looking the same after they've been stretched. it is a really pretty tattoo, though. maybe make it into a back piece, or put it on the underside of your arm.
