What kind of birth control do you use? What do you like/dislike about it? Does it affect your moods or libido?

Hi Gina,
When I was on birth control I went with the good ole pill. I had researced the Depo shot, as well as the Nirform I think it's called? (The one that goes in your arm). Both the Depo and Nirform reported drastic side effects like not being able to conceive again or for years, extreme weight gain, and depression. I am sure there are great benefits for using these forms of birth control, but what I read scared the mess out of me! I went with the tried and true pill and it worked well for me. I don't remember the name...but when I do I will post it here. Good luck on your search.

Over the years i tried an assortment of hormone based birth control. Everyone had some negative that made it not work for me. Depo had me completely wacked. The nuva ring is the only thing i have not tried. But the copper iud was great. after this baby my doc wanted to put one back in. i want anothr so will get it reinserted after that. bc pills made me sick, crazy or pre-menopasal.
Hi Gina, I just read your question and I felt that I needed to share my story with you. I am 32 years old and I have been taking birth control since I was 14. It worked so good I thought I would never get pregnant. I finally stopped taking them because I felt I was talking it for too long and I wasn't sure if I was doing any permanent damage to myself. The Dr. said no but I was listening to my own body. Me and my husband we using other methods of birth control but were not very comfortable. (condoms) So we stopped everything. I finally got pregnant, wasn't planned but wasn't a mistake either. After the baby was born I started getting the shot(DEPO), and that's when things changed. I never wanted to have sex, and I was always moody.I also gained some weight from it. I talked to my Dr. and he told me that things will change after the first few months, that my body needed to adjust to the change. Well, that never happened. So I went back on the pill and everything is fine now. I do not recommend taking the pill that give you your period only 3 time a year because I did some research on it and it causes to many problems. Blood clots, heart problems, and even death. So my recommendation to you is to look at all your options and speak to your Dr. about all the different methods out there.
Hope this was a little help to you. Christine(pooh-mommy)
Before you try - please watch this video. I found it on You Tube and it changed my life. In fact - this video prompted me to research all of the products I use (for everything) and I have completely changed my home over to all safe, natural, non toxic products. I quickly realized how exposed I was as well as my family - and had no idea that there were alternatives out there that were better and safer for us.
Do what feels right for you - but be aware that there are many harmful products out there - but there are also wonderful alternatives.
I am currently using the Mirena and absolutly love it.
I have no side effects! and let me tell you I havent' had a period in two years and that saves money every month.
Years before I was taking Ortho Tricycln Low and It gave me high blood pressure adn migraines, I actually had to take High blood pressure meds.

I have been taking YAZ for a year now. I am doing really good on it. No mood swings or weight gain, my skin has cleared up nicely. BUT I have been seeing research all over the dang place about it being harmful, causing strokes and heart attacks and deep vein thrombosis in women OUR age. Another thing I noticed is that my diet greatly affects it's integrity. If I eat high protein meals and grapefruit...it causes me to start my period early...then it takes a month to get it back to normal. So I don't reccommed YAZ.
I have had the mirena in for about a year and a half now. I had some cramping on and off, but the fact that I have not had a period far outweighs the side effects. I still have a libido, but I have gained weight with it. I think that all birth control does that though pretty much.
1st just wanted to tell you how cool your name was ( mainly because mine is Gina Marie! :o)
And 2nd right now I am not on any bc because I had Mirena and got an ectopic pregnancy from it! Was a very crazy ordeal so for me I would rather risk a normal pregnancy than have that darn IUD. I also personally know another lady that also had an ectopic but it landed her in the ER. Another lady that a friend of mine knows had the IUD break inside of her! (don't ask me how, that one still blows my mind! lol) Any just wanted to put in my 2cents. Stay away from Mirena! :o)
Nuvaring! I love it because it is a very low-dose of hormones and you don't have to remember to use it every day. Keeps your cycles and moods regular, and I notice as I get a little older it also helps my skin tone/firmness. I've tried all kinds of pills, condoms, etc and had no luck. I think this is the easiest.
