I heard on the news today that a government medical panel determined that women under fifty do not need screenings for breast cancer. They said that there are to many false positives resulting in unnecessary disfiguring biopsies. They also said that women between 50 and 74 only need to be sreened every 2 years. They also said that self-breast exams are useless. The American Cancer Society is sticking with the guidelines that are already in place. I think since it is a GOVERNMENT Medical Panel saying this, that it is because of the cost of the exams ie. ultra sounds and mammograms. During the broadcast they through in the cost of each exam and what it costs the state to do these free exams. I want to know how they can say this and why free exams aren't offered for younger women. There are more younger women being diagnosed with cancer or by the time they have the test at 40 it is too late. What do you think?
Friends, Rhoni
I think women should at least do their monthly at home breast exams.
If they go to a doctor's and they diagnose them with breast cancer, I feel that the women should get multiple opinions to recheck the original doctor's diagnoses.
Than after that, the women should do extensive endepth research on all their opitions. They should just readily jump on what they are told because some doctors are out to do what's best for them and not their patients.
I think there are too many women (and men) who just go with whatever a doctor tells them and don't bother to educate themselves on the issue. (Issue can include all medical conditions and diagnoses.)

DO THE EXAMS! What is it going to hurt? For me, I found a lump on my right breast several yrs ago. I was 31! I was scared even though i knew it could be as simple as a blocked milk duct even though i hadn't nursed in yrs. By the time i got to the Drs it was gone. Love my DR! He was so kind and sent me in for a mammogram due to the area it was found in on my breast. He even told me that you don't have to have a history of breast cancer in the family to get. Because it was in the top outer quarter of my breast, which is the highest risk of placement for breast cancer. It turned out to be just a blocked duct, but had I just ignored it, where could i be now if it had been the real deal. Very young women in their early 20s get breast cancer. So what if it cost money to do the exams and get mammograms. That is what insurance and the Drs are for. To take care of us. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THE TA TAS
