Question about tubal ligation

hello ladies!  i was just wondering if any of you have ever had tubal ligation?  i was thinking about getting it later on in the year.  im 31 years old now and have 2 wonderful boys.  ive really thought about it and i think that the kids i have are plenty hehe.  there is no sense in paying for birth control if i dont want anymore kids.  my question was have any of you had this done other then when you gave birth?  the reason i ask is because you are reasonably sore after birth and im wondering how much pain difference there is between doing it after birth or when you arent pregnant.  if you have done it how long did you have to stay home from work or be off your feet?  how long were you at the hospital?  any useful info will help thank you!

I only know of ppl that had it done at the same time as birth including myself. I can say this though, I had 2 C sections and it was the same amount of pain for both. The only thing different is my period got heavier afterwards and the cramps are worse. And I had mine done at 33 yrs old. The Dr also told me that it is the same recovery as a C Section, so it has the same rules.
I hope that helps!

I thought about having it done when I delivered my 3 child but changed my mind. My SIL had it done a few years ago b/c she was tired of paying for BCPs. It was done as an out patient procedure. I saw her at a family thing a couple of weeks later and she was still a little sore, but she said it wasn't too bad.

I had mine done 8 years ago right after birth  I was 25... ... I was told not to lift anything over 15 lbs for a week and to rest...   I totally regret it.   When my youngest was 2 my husband left me for a 19 year old....Long story short ..  Now I'm remarried and would love to have a baby with the current hubby but can't without SERIOUS cost and no guarantees.     Now I have  heavier longer periods(7-10 days) and painful cramps.... my mom had a Tubal Ligation as well had the same problems  Plus fibroid tumors and endometriosis She had to get a hysterectomy  ...

There are other longer term methods such as the Mirena(sp) that lasts 5  years... I wish my doctor would have given me that option.....

Good Luck and Do your research

thanks for all your help ladies!  i actually went to the site for Essure which is like these springs they insert into your fallopian tubes to block them.  i heard good reviews from it but not sure about the worse periods.  some doctors do it in their office so i think im going to check with my insurance company and look into it.  the site says sometimes you only have to pay a copay.  i dont think ill be that lucky but we will see :)

I had a tubal 8 weeks after I had my daughter. It was done as an outpatient procedure and was done laproscopically. I actually had my tubes clamped with Filshe clamps which is how my doctor does it. I had some pain but nothing like after I gave birth and I was back to work  a week later with no restrictions (I'm a  RN). I haven't noticed any difference in my periods or cramps but I have always had heavy periods so that would be nothing new to me. I also went on vacation 2 days after the procedure and only took pain pills while we were in the car traveling.
