Babysitters

I have a question for everyone. How much do you pay your babysitters? Our friend's daughter is going to be watching our two month old son for about 5 hours on Sundays while we are at work. She is in high school and asked me if $5 was too much. I said that is wasn't enough. I want to make sure she is getting paid a fair rate. Any suggestions?

14 years  ago when I was in high school, I got $5 an hour to babysit. I think it is up to $8 an hour now.

I have 3 that are 4,6,8 and we usually pay 7/hr. but for a 2 month old I would pay 5 an hour cause of feedings and diapers and all that goes with babies but thats just my opinion....

I'm sorry. I have no idea....I think $8 sounds fair.

i would suggest around $15 only because your baby will probably be asleep the majority of the time you are gone.  and she might have to do one feeding and changing of a diaper.  not much.

$8 is fair. I pay between $8-$12 an hour depending in the sitter, hours, and her age. My adult sitter working until 2am gets $12, my teen who works Sunday afternoon gets $8-$10. $8 if she is here 5-6 hours, $10 if it's four hours or less.
My goal is to always make it worth their while. The PP who says only $15 is forgetting that for that little, the sitter will leave you in the lurch if a better opportunity arises.

Here's a bump, my DD has never had a sitter.

I pay my sitter $14 per hour. However, she 21 and she is certified in CPR and works at a daycare part time. :) I know. I'm lucky. I feel like she deserves to get a little more than the average partly because of her age, and because she is so good at it.
