My babes had their yearly physicals yesterday. My daughter is 8 and my son is 12. Both are healthy and happy but my son had his first "turn your head and cough" exam yesterday. His sister and I left the room for that one but I listened and have to admit I lmbo hearing his coughs... well I come back in and our Pedi who has known both kids since birth just looks at me with this huge smile and laugh in his voice and says "Well mom you got yourself a son in stage 2 almost 3 of purberty" (there are 5 stages).  My heart broke a little. I mean I KNEW he was starting it the body odor (blech) and he is starting to get acne. But the way Dr. C was acting apparently my 12-year-old is turning into a "man". Just so happens I took him and a few of his friends out to dinner after the appointment and to see Star Wars in 3D I let them sit on their own and while watching the movie I would look over at him and just start crying... I am very proud of my son thus far in his life. He plays the flute in his school band, honor roll student, and stays true to himself not caring what anyone says (HELLO HE CHOSE TO PLAY THE FLUTE WHEN HE TESTED HIGH ENOUGH FOR THE SAX) and I am very proud of him... but I am not ready for this at all. How do I handle him, he is 5'3 at 12, I am 5'4 and a single mom. There are times when he tries to politely and respectfully of course assert his male dominance. He KNOWS EVERYTHING apparently and I am ALWAYS wrong, till I prove I am right. Not only that I love his little voice it is the one I have heard since he started talking I don't want his voice to change. He has started to show interest in girl's that isn't my son I have him on tape when he was 4 promising he would never leave me or get married and I was the only gal he needed... I also got the promise I could pick out his wife too... waaaaaaaaa I don't want to lose my little boy!!!! Sorry guys had to whine a little... still pretty sad for some reason, everything has to change now and I am not ready for it I guess is what is bothering me most. They truly do grow up way to fast. :(

I know how you feel!!! My oldest son is about to graduate high school and that in itself is hard enough to deal with but my youngest is 13 now and in some stage of puberty already. He is the one that is in sports AND sings AND acts... adorable, sensitve, compassionate, and will make a great husband some day... BUT NOT YET... I cry too. Just not ready! *HUG* to you cause I get it!

You both have me bawling like a baby and my DS is only 2!! I sniffle when he learns new words or identifies an object I didn't know he knew - i will be a basket case when he hits puberty!!

My son is 6 and to read what you are going through makes me sad. I get those same promises and I know they are 6 year old, I love Mommy promises, and will soon be a "mom, I found someone " discussion. I treasure every every hug, kiss, and cuddle now. I am finding tho, that there is a very special mother /son bond that no one will be able break.

Hugs Momma! It sounds like you are raising a smart well rounded man there.

Yep, I feel the same way - my son is 10, and I can't believe he's started going through puberty already...body odor, hair, etc...it's so hard to believe!

I really dread my kiddos getting bigger, at 8 and 5 I already feel like it is whizzing by.

I cry at every birthday, first day of a new school year, choir recitals, sporting events, band recitals, I am awful. my daughter brings the same emotions to the surface but my son just throws me over!
