So I was at wal-mart picking up some motrin for my daughter after her tooth was pulled and there was a man there looking for infant's tylenol. He asked an employee who handed him the 2 years and up stuff. He says "but this is for older kids" and so she takes it to ask the pharmacist. Comes back saying it's the right stuff and walks away. He is obviously new to all of this and very confused so I asked him how old his baby is. He has a 2 week old!! The doctor told him to go to wal-mart and get infant's tylenol. I told him I certainly would not be giving that strength to a 2 week old and that safeway (right across the parking lot) as well as pretty much any other grocery store should have it too. He didn't know that and left to go find the right stuff.
Can't a pharmacist get in trouble for giving tylenol for a 2+ year old to a parent for a 2 week old?
i think the pharmacist didn't know what the age was. the sales associate probably didn't have the age right. it's good you were able to direct him to get the right stuff!!!!
the employee asked the pharmacists then came back, handed him the box, and said it was the right thing. She didn't tell him a dose.
Quoting Aislinn:It is not about the "strength" but the dose. The pharmacist probably calculated the babies weight and figured out the correct dose. I though Infant Tylenol was taken off the market?
I wonder if the employee just heard the guy say 2 and assumed years not months old.
a pharmacist is actually better to talk to about the meds than a dr....you don't know if the man gave all the information to the rph or just asked of that was the med he needed
I was standing right there (debating on what to buy for my daughter because she's 22 months and the one goes to 23 months) when he asked the employee where the infant tylenol was for his 2 week old. I just asked again so he didn't think I was evesdropping LOL. And when she brought it back he said "but this says for 2 years and up" and she goes "oh, I know but it's the right thing."

but he should have asked about the dosing, because it was the correct medication
I would think the pharmacist would have said "that will work but make sure you only give this much, not the full infants dose."
