My husband is an electrical lineman and he has a really good opportunity to do his apprenticeship with the best program in the country. Catch is...it's all travel work. The program he is in now is a 5 year program and isn't even nationally recognized by the Department of Labor. So this means once he gets his journeyman and wants to move out of state...he may have problems and have to jump through hoops. With this new job its twice the pay and 2 years less time and nationally recognized as THE best by the department of labor. My question is would you go on the road with your husband? We have a 5 yr old who will start 1st grade next year. We have a 39ft 5th wheel with 2 bedrooms (it's huge). My son would have his own room. We can stay behind and rent a house and have bills or we can go with dad and save $$ and homeschool for a maximum time of 3 years. If we choose to stay behind we will never see him except the occasional weekend if he is close enough for travel and then during the summer. What would you do??
homeschool all the way!! i would have loved to live in my 5th wheel and be homeschooled the whole time when i was a kid. as it was we homeschooled and were able to take a lot of great trips in said 5th wheel because we could be flexible with our schedule. one of the best times of my life. if you don't want to be responsible for the school work and you have internet access in the 5th wheel, do online public school. good stuff. hope you're able to go for it!! :)
if this was my situation now, i would definitely go with my husband! :)
(i'm not a 30 something mom, but i have experience being homeschooled and having a big 5th wheel, so i feel i can give my opinion! :) )
There are so many awesome sites about homeschooling on the road and living in an rv. check out rvforum.net

There are a TON more resources if you google them. I say GO FOR IT.
IMO- You never will regret keeping your family together! :)
I will be honest I am against HomeSchooling, I have known a few kids in my life who homeschooled and hated it because they didnt have much of a social life except for the "group" they did things with.
with that being said I would sooo HomeSchool if you can afford it and go traveling that would be a great experience for you and the kid. That would be so much fun. If you get tired of it and need a break from the traveling you can still always go home.

I would homeschool. Of course, I'm speaking as an adult that was homeschooled as a kid, so I may be slightly biased.
Homeschool!! What a great opportunity for your son to see the country! And you can teach him so much real life stuff depending on where you are at the time :)
