I don't have birthday parties for myself anymore. My parents usually offer to take the kids overnight, and dh takes me out to dinner. We then spend the rest of the night at home alone. As for the kids. We have a small house, and our yard is a swamp until June (their birthdays are in April). I usually have them invite a few close friends and we have small parties at the local bowling alley, or Chuck E Cheese. My kid's school have a policy that if you pass out party invitations, you have to have one for everyone. I did that one year for my daughter, and it was a disaster. She was so worried about a boy in her class, that was bullying her, showing up and ruining the party that she was in tears all the way to the pary site. Thank god he was a no show. After that, I told my daughter to get her friend's phone numbers, and I called the parent's for the address or email address so I could send them the information for the party. I plan to do the same thing for my son. This year, we decided to go on a weekend family trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky rather than host 2 birthday parties. The kids loved the idea.
My son gets 2. His bday is in jan right after Christmas so we do a small one on his bday family dinner. Something fun at lunch w his closest friends. This year we went to chuck e cheese.
During the summer we do a half bday party. Usually a big pool party BBQ. Woth food favors etc I usually spend 300 on that party. Mainly because of the number of people we include.
For my kids I do. Usually under $50. I haven't had a birthday party since I turned 10.
