On the way home from the dentist office we were surprised...
My kid's dentist is an hour away. Not a surprise everything is an hour from here. Anyways, on the way home we like to go by one of the old towns there. The streets are closed to traffic and my son loves history. There's a historic bowling alley there (free) they like to play at too. Well, we went by today and we found this...

They were doing a whole reinactment of the 1850s old west! My son was in heaven. And since it was Thursday there weren't many people there at all :) $5 to get in and we had a blast!

My daughter decided to be a bowling pin apparently. She would NOT move from this spot!

my son decided he really likes indoor pumbing now. He doesn't want to have to carry water to the house everytime we need it :)

See the hole just past my son? Well, he followed some other kids through it (it's short) but he couldn't get back down! Yeah, that wasn't fun. These rocks are slippery too! They are left from when they used to do hydromining and have been climbed on by thousands of feet since then.
So what did my son learn today?
1. Mattresses were made out of rope then
2. "houses" were more like tents
3. there was no running water. Instead you had to pump it outside and carry it in.
4. all about outhouses (yeah, they even had those!)
5. Stores were not like ours today
6. How to pan for gold
I'm sure there's more but when I asked him that's the things he listed :) I really needed to come home and get some stuff done but how could I pass up such an amazing learning opportunity for him? We had so much fun.
Looks like you guys had a great time : ) I LOVE old west stuff too : )
