Icing on the cake?

How can I apply icing on my DS Birthday cake without the top of it come off with the icing when I spread it? It is sooo annoying!

Icing needs to be thinned. Best way is to crumb coat the cake with thinned icing then refrigerate. Frost with rest of icing.

Thats what i do! Lol! It is a pain in the butt when that happens! Just do 10 sec intervales tell its easy to mix! Sorry about my spelling!

I tried to water it down but I didn't like it. Is that what you ment by thinning it?

It depends on the type of frosting. Can be done with milk, cream, extract, too.

Make sure your cake is fully cooled before icing it, and I agree with the pp who said to microwave icing for a few seconds :)
