My oldest, Sydnee, decided to give public school a try for 5th grade (she has been homeschooled until this year and my son still is homeschooled). I am a huge believer in letting children make their own decisions as long as they stick with them.

When I announced I would homeschool the kids I was torn apart by EVERYONE saying that I was ruining any chance they had at an academic future.

Well Syd ended the year with an 89 average and got the state awards for academic excellence in science and social sciences.

When she called family members to tell them about the awards she was told that it is not fair that she got them, she was homeschooled and had an unfair advantage over the other kids.

What kind of grandparent says that to an 11 year old? The poor kid just can't win!

But I am proud of her on so many levels, she went into a brand new situation and excelled, she never missed an assignment, she joined clubs, she made a ton of new friends, and she never compromised who she was as a person. I am a lucky mom :)

That extended fam will never think you did right or be on her side! How dare they diminish her accomplishments! I personally would tell them off, but I am a mouthy biatch sometimes! Take that amazing girl out for ice cream and dote on her like crazy! What a bunch of jerks to say that to a kid! My dd is about to be in 5th and I would be over the moon if she did that well! Sounds like these people are out to be against you no matter what you do! Buttheads!

I didn't need to, Jason lost it on them when Syd told him what was said. He doesn't want me inviting them to any events involving the kids any more.

You have a real man there! Keep him forever! My man puts me and our kids first too, but so many are still stuck on mommy's approval! Good on Jason. I think he is a man to be applauded!

He use to always want her approval, now he realizes that his wife and children come before her.

Your daughter sounds pretty awesome to me and what a risk taker!!  Tell her not to listen to what other people say, her accomplishments were still well earned!!  Congrats!  Is she going to stay with public schooling or go back to homeschooling next year?

Congrats to your daughter!! That's a great accomplishment on many levels :) also, congrats to you as well!! You've done a wonderful job with teaching your kids what they need, and more! I'd DEFINETLY try to keep your family around those who are going to be positive, even of it means limiting relatives visits/ calls. Congrats again!! Oh, an what type of schooling are you doing?
