I went for my annual exam and pap smear on Monday morning. Towards the end of the appointment the doctor said (REALLY FAST) "I'm going to do a rectal exam." then stuck his finger in there. I've NEVER had that done before and he didn't give me a chance to say no.
This is a new OB-GYN that I just started seeing last year and I totally did NOT feel comfortable with that at all. Not to mention the fact that he did the whole exam without the nurse in the room. Please tell me if this is normal or not!!!
I have had doctors do that before during an exam.. why they do it I have no clue.. but I have had it done before.. Although doctor didnt speed through the Hey Im gonna do this.. part lol I don't blame you for feeling weirded out. I think there should have been a nurse in there. I know every male doctor that had to be doing that kind of exam always has had a female in there. Its for your protection and in this day and time it's for his too.. Wouldnt be the first time a doctor took advantage of a patient, or even a patient thinking that doctor is their free ticket and making false accusations. If you aren't comfortable with the way he did I would recommend finding someone else. GL yo you =)
It is totally against the law. Even for a female doctor they to can be charged for sexuall harassment, if he didn't talk with you about it first, then he totally violated you and let it be known. I don't like men like that. Good luck!
The rectal exam isn't odd...but I dont like that he didn't have a nurse in there with him.
I agree, whenever my regular gyno is off and I have to see the male gyno who works at the clinic I go to, he always has a female nurse in the room with me. It is standard practice up here.
Quoting mrsary:
Its not normal for a male gyno to not have a nurse in the room!
