How do you deal with toy gifts you don't want? / Does anyone use a toy registry?

I've been getting toys from friends and family that aren't exactly what I want for my LO. Anyone else having the same problem? How do you deal with it? Do toy registries work?

I think all gift registries are presumptious and I would be shocked if I were to be invited to a child's birthday party with a "toy registry" noted in the invitation!

If your child does not like the gift or has no use for the gift there are lots of children that are not so fortunate; simply donate and remember how fortunate you are to have people that think enough about you to bring your child a gift at all!

Or you could just note on the invitation "instead of bringing a  gift because you all seem suck at buying them, drop off a donation to the Salvation Army and save me the trouble of doing it myself." *eyeroll*

I donate (Goodwill or Angel Tree) or hold it for other kids to play with when they come over. I appreciate any gift someone gives, no matter what it is.

If you are picky about gifts, make a no gift rule. Maybe donate to a charity on behalf of your daughter.

It's not horrible and although people says is horrible at the end is what most of us do if we can't exchange the toys

Quoting LuvHugs429:

I regift. I know its horrible and people may think I'm horrible but I don't care. My daughter has been getting a lot of those "make your own jewlery", this last birthday she even got her own "Design your own tattoo set" I was like REALLY??? She is 7 and it was from a classmate. She really is not into the kind of stuff she just likes to play with the beads and get them everywhere, Unless it was a classroom setting I don't even think my kids ever played with play doh. Yes I am a mean mommy :D

I think toys registries are impolite. You could possibly ask for gift reciepts under the ruse of "in case of duplicates" and then exchange for what you want. I just finding basically making a list of what you expect for gifts is right up there with a bride and groom stating "in lieu of gifts, please bring money"
Most family members will ask anyway, but there is no way I would ever start a toy registry....gift reciepts, yes....but other than that....a gift is a gift, if it isn't what you want, donate or regift. Just be gracious and teach your LO to be gracious

Regift it, return it, or donate to a charity.
