They just seem unaware of the danger...

We went to the each recently with some of my family. My kids and I are very fair skinned & we burn easily. Anyway I use a lot of sunscreen because I don't want to be in pain & I don't want them to be either plus too much sun exposure is bad in the long run. My aunt who is a tanning bed addict kept saying u need to let them get some sun they might want a tan when they grow up. Am I the only person who is concerned about this issue?

I'm both tho more for vit d and not for a tan. I let my kids play for about 10 mins at a time maybe without sunblock. If they r staying longr I use california baby or badger block and apply it every 45mins or so. I yell at my mom all the time for this because she will only use like spf4! She thinks u can't get tan using 30. I finally sent her a pic lol and I use it all the time!

My kids tan even with sunscreen. We have a pool so sunscreen is a must here. I put it on before we get in and during the day while we are outside.

My grandma is like that though. The other day I was laying on the deck tanning (with sunscreen) and she commented on how dark I was getting. I was like "most grandma's would have fussed that I was in the sun....lol".

They do get sun. They all have tan lines. I just think its important to be cautious. If its mid day I am very careful. We were on the beach for like 3.5 hours & I applied once before we went out & once while we were out. I dont think that's too much really. We had our umbrellas for shade too.

I am really fair skinned.I burn in minutes if I don't use sunscreen. There is nothing wrong with protecting your kids from burns.Or potential skin cancer/sun damage.

I put sunscreen on my kids as well as myself when we are out swimming, at the park etc. I have olive tone skin so I get a tan even if I have 50+ sunscreen on. My youngest is the same way, my middle son has pretty fair skin but still gets somewhat of a tan through the summer. I like to be outside in the sun but I don't lay out to tan like I did when I was a teen. I also get a yearly mole check done by my dermatologist since I had a precancerous mole removed some years ago. It's interesting though since I had that particular mole since I was a child.

I will burn in the middle of the night almost so I use a daily sunscreen. My kid, on the other hand, has never burned. She tans beautifully, but I still have instilled the habit of her using a sunscreen lotion in her daily face care routine.

No, you aren't the only one.  Seems like every time my sons thinks about going outside there are a half dozen adults tackling him with sunscreen as he is fair skinned, so am I, we use a lot of it.  Sunburns are painful and dangerous.

No. I'm very fair skinned & my youngest is a redhead. My husband is of Mediterranean descent, so he's tan year-round & in the summer, just gets darker. My oldest is more like him. I sunscreen the crap out of both of my kids before we set foot outside. It's just responsible, IMO.

Ummm no. I live in S. FL. My boys are somewhat fair and they have never had a sunburn. They get plenty of vitamin D when out abd about. If we are going to be outside for a period of time (beach, pool, outdoor event...) they wear sunscreen.
