Would you move to get your child into a better school?
We have just put our large house on the market to move to another city with better schools for our special needs children, one with autism, one with emotional issues. This school district is one of the best in the state and does well working with special needs children. They are a public schoo. Downsides are have to get a smaller house because thhis is a great area houses are twice as expensive. We are downsizing just by one bedroom, we have 5 children so a 5 bedroom is great but now we will only be able to afford a 4 br. They have the same sq footage though so that isnt to bad and there is always an option to add on to the house. The other downside is their gifted program does not start in 1 st grade and we have 1 child in the program now as a 1st grader. I know our gifted child will still excell and be back into a program in 3rd grade. This is a chance for our 2 other special needs children to have a chance to excel. The current school district want to place our high function verbal autistic that did not disrupt his class last year into a class full of children with different levels of functioning. He needs to be mainstreamed to get social skills and his is keeping up academically in normal ed class. When he got the autism lable though the school says we dont care he did fine in mainstream, autistic children need to be in a special class. How many of you mom would put a house up for sale to get their children a better education?
