My 10 year old wants to shave her legs.

She says that all the girls in her class are doing it. I think she's too young still. I also think she is just saying that to make me give in.

When I shaved my legs for the first time, I think I was 11. I don't remember asking and thinking that maybe my mother wouldn't notice, lol. Anyways, I ended up tearing my legs up.

What are your opinions about what age is appropriate for shaving?

I don't think there is an appropriate age.  I think if she needs to shave her legs she should be able to shave them.

My daughter is 10. And she shaves. We did 101 on it and the first time I shaved them for her. I think that is a good age depending on the child. If its the razor you are skeptical about, buy her the Veet system. Kids now a days are cruel and if it will help her with self esteem then go for it. Just make sure she completely understands that it ends up being a pain in the arse! Lol good luck on your decision.

My daughter is almost ten and will probably need to start shaving soon as she has really hairy legs! She is not responsible enough for a real razor though, so we will do Veet or nair, that way she doesn't mess her legs up.

You're right, kids are cruel and after you shave for the first time, it's a life long process!

I can't tell you how many times I have tried Nair, to no avail. I was thinking about trying it on her though. I haven't tried it within the past 5 years.

Is Veet like Nair?

My dd is 10 and she shaves. We have thick, dark hair, so for her it was time. It bothered her and was uncomfortable wearing shorts or skirts to school. I showed her how a couple of times. Now she does it on her own when she wants.
I don't think there's a certain age when they can/should start. it's just something the two of you decide. If you're not ready, then don't start her.

I have been thinking about Nair myself. I still have scars from when I first started. My mother used those $1 razors. My daughter has very fine, light leg hair.

My dd was 10 when she started shaving.  I felt that the time was right simply because she asked to, which showed me she was ready.  She has always used a regular razor and shaving cream.  I showed her how the first time, she cut her legs a tiny bit the second time and hasn't since.  And I've NEVER had to tell her it's time to shave, which is amazing since I still have to remind her to shower half the time.

My daughter started last year at 11. I say let her start. I let my daughter at that age because that was the age she asked. Now if she would've asked at 5/6 I would say no because I would be scared she would cut herself.

Nair or veet should work just fine then.

LOL-- yeah, I still have to remind my daughter too, even though it's the same time every night.

I guess I am just going to go for it. She is wearing shorts and skirts everyday right now.
