How do you handle it?

We are moving to a new house across town.  If you've moved, you know that entails a lot of work: sorting, packing, cleaning etc.  I have adequate time to do this (5 weeks) but I'm worried about my kids.  When I get stressed I tend to snap quickly.  I know this and I'm trying to avoid it.  How do you handle high stress times without blowing up at your kids?

I give them something to do and I calm down. It's not their fault that we have to take care of other stressful things. I keep the busy so they're not in our way for that time. They can help you pack, fold clothes etc. Keep them busy with cartoons, books, activities.

I am still trying to figure out how to handle stress without snapping. :(  I like Sweets27 reply, but at 2 my DD is not any good at being set up with a toy and playing with it to stay out of our way.

Good luck!!!

My kids are older 11, 9 and 7.  They can help but its the bickering that drives me nuts. They're excited but they also pick up on the stress, and they handle it by picking fights and being unusually sensitive.  I know that's the cause and I don't want to make it worse.  But I still have to get ready! :(

I take a time out for myself.

Tell them that you are under a LOT of pressure, and you need their help not only by sorting their toys and books, but by being extra kind to you and each other. If you lose it,just apologize and move on,don't beat yourself up. But,try not to,you want to model resiliency and good cheer for your kids :)

If they are in school. Pack while they are at school.

I sent the kids to the grandparents on moving weekend. They were 1 & 4 and very much in the way.

The kids are homeschooled, so sending them to school doesn't work. :)  We have a month, which is plenty of time. But..I want to have the majority of the packing done before school starts so we're not taking away from that. So...I have 9 (or so) days to pack 9 rooms.
