My Dr said we could induce if we needed to. We live in the snowbelt & in the country. I was talking to him about my concern for not being able to get to the hospital & he said we could plan to induce. ANy thoughts??
There are many reasons not to.
Personally, I wouldn't induce unless there was some dire, emergent need to. My pov is that the baby knows best how much time it needs to cook in there before it comes out. Just because you can induce, doesn't necessarily mean you should induce.
If I was in your position, I would educate myself and my DH as much as possible on natural childbirth, just so that we could handle it on our own in case we couldn't get to the hospital. Babies don't need hospitals to birth healthy and plenty do just fine without a hospital entirely. In fact, my 37 year old friend recently did a homebirth VBAC with no issues.
Your birth, your choice.
Pros- It can be lifesaving if there is a medical reason
Cons- unnatural, more painful labor, more risks, higher risk of c-section, risk of a NICU stay, often starts the "cascade of interventions"
I am simply saying pitocin does not mean c-section. Its your delivery and if I was in your situation I would schedule induction. But every woman is different. You have to do what is best for you... and if you trust your Dr (I hope you do) then trust he will help you make best decision based on your situation.
I was induced for my first. Short 2 hour labor.. not any more painful than my second, which was all natural and also 2 hours long (they were born around the same time of the day too.. lol).
Actually, my second was more painful because the doctor just let me tear. I also might have given birth sooner if he would have cut me because I had a hard time pushing her out..
But that was me.. I've heard horror stories. :(
I was due to be induced at 7am and I went into natural labor at 12h30am she was in my arms by 5h30am. My sister was induced and the baby's age was miscalculated, her baby was at best 36 weeks you could tell he wasn't "ready" to come out yet.
Have a back up plan instead, EMTs or paramedics are certified to deliver. Should you be stuck ... unless you prefer to be induced, it's your personal chocie
