we have raised all 4 of our kids to be kind,considerate,helpful,etc..I have a 17yr old son who is getting depressed cause he can never find a girl..I mean a female who still likes the good guy type..he believes in holding doors, limited touching, just hanging out..no sex invovled..all the girls he has talk to told him he is too nice to be with..they want someone who wants to have sex, fight, smoke, drink, the thug type..my son is getting depressed now..he is rethinking his good guy persona..he thinks now that he needs to start fighting, drinking,an smoking,,it hurts my heart to see him down like this..

what happen to females wanting a gentlemen?

am i wrong for raising a gentleman not a thug?

of course you are not wrong.  you need to tell your son that he is a rare find.  he is not the typical jerk that girls can find anywhere.  and those girls turning him down are typical girls that any jerk can have.  he needs to realize that he is way awesome and a lot more wanted than what he's seen so far and the reason for this is be/c the kind of girl that is going to perfect for him is also going to be a rare find.  she's going to be a good girl, looking for a good guy.  she will be one that the jerks don't mess with be/c they think she's a prude or snobby.  it's gonna take a special girl for your special guy and that just doesn't come along every day.  tell him to keep his head up and be proud of who he is and be thankful that he's not just a thug like a lot of them out there and that somewhere out there is his rare find just waiting for that day that they are both ready.  good luck.

thank you..i tried telling him that last nite an this morning..as a mom it hurts to see him so down about just finding a girl or girlfriend he can talk to about just the simplest things..he says that after watching me drink, smoke,an get violent(wasn't on purpose somebody gave me a drink one nite at my sister house that didn't taste like liquor.i didn't have no memory of it) it wasn't for him.tho he shouldn't have seen me like that i'm glad he learned from my mistakes.

It has ALWAYS been like that. It isn't a new thing.

He will find him someone when the time is right. My husband was the same way. I was his first girlfriend and we got together when we were 20. He was a virgin and a total nice guy and girls just weren't interested in him. I thought he was sweet and got to know him and fell for him.

I am sure it gets to him, but someone will take the time to see him for the person he is.

It took me a lot of jerks to finally give a "good guy" a chance and we have been happily married for 3 years.
Tell him to be patient.

Tell him good things come to those who wait.

I was 19 and my husband was 20 when we met. He was exactly like you describe your son. He had never had sex, he didn't smoke or do drugs (he did drink on occasion), he was super nice and polite. Almost too good to be true. But he wasn't. We've been married for almost 11 years now and to be quite honest out of all of the couples I can think of, we are the ones with the strongest relationship.

I think it's because neither of us has a "past' for the other one to deal with. We've never had a bad patch and we are genuinely very happy people. Tell him to be patient and just go on living his life without worrying about what girls think.

I wouldn't worry about it. It takes a great woman to be with a real gentleman. Truthfully the world needs more gentlemen.

Girls like that aren't for him. He will find someone. It may be after he is out of high school.
