My son likes to eat the school lunches but on the days he doesn't like what they are having his favorite things I make are peanut butter and banana wraps. Just buy whole wheat wraps, cover it with peanut butter and roll a whole banana up in it! He also likes wraps with chicken slices, shredded, lettuce, cheese and ranch dressing.

Funny how we try to come up with all these special lunches for our kids when I think I just remember my mom making us two choices...pb& j or bologna & cheese sandwiches.

One of my favorites as a kid was graham crackers with frosting (the store brand works best) on them. Keep in the fridge. Great treat/snack/dessert.

Peeled hard-boiled eggs, large soft pretzels (I make homemade ones) with broccoli and cheese soup to dip it in, bagels w/cream cheese, ham and cheese chunks threaded on toothpicks (snip the pokey ends off), anything rolled in a tortilla (turkey and cream cheese), english muffin pizza or leftover pizza, quesadillas, cooked chicken strips.

For sides: Veggies (cut up cucumbers, green pepper strips, cherry tomatoes, celery sticks with a blob of peanut butter to dip them in, celery with cream cheese (add raisins for ants on a log), carrot sticks and hummus to dip them in, fruits (banana, mandarin oranges, grapes, cut-up kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, mix of berries, fruit salad, watermelon chunks, cantaloupe chunks, applesauce, canned peaches, pears, fruit cocktail, dried fruit, popcorn (sometimes I throw a few M&M's in there), yogurt cup, pretzels, crackers, trail mix, string cheese.

Dessert: Maybe a mini-muffin or two (usually whole wheat zucchini), granola bars (I make homemade of these too), pudding, graham crackers, yogurt-coated pretzels, jello, whatever else I have on hand if I add a dessert.

I'm with you on that...

One DD of mine likes me to send campbells chicken noodle soup in her thermos or a salami sandwich everyday.  The only thing I mix it up with is the other things I put, like one day its a banana, one day its grapes.  Then sometimes I'll give her chips, pretzels or goldfish..  Nothing too exciting.

My other DD just started 1st grade so lunch is new to her still.  I've tried different things with her, because she doesnt like everything, and eats slower than my other dd.  Anyway what I 've been giving her is a pb&j or Nutella and banana sandwich or yogurt, grapes or banana or apple, chips, goldfish or pretzels.(she also eats snack, so I usually give her a little extra.)

Any sandwich I give them I usually cut with a cookie cutter, so it is really only like 3/4 of the size of a full sandwich. But they enjoy the different shapes and having the crust off.
